au where that Fourth of July went differently, and Brandy grew up to be a famous singer.

"Good evening, and welcome back to Late Night with David Letterman! I'm your host, David Letterman, and today we have the lovely Brandy Hunt with us. Tell us, Brandy, how are you?" David Letterman said with his bright, show host smile.

Eddie choked as he heard a familiar name from his television set. Had he said Brandy Hunt? No. He couldn't have. She wasn't famous. Eddie turned up his tv, suddenly intrigued in the show.

A beautiful woman sat down in the chair next to David Letterman. Eddie's eyes boggled. That was Brandy. His old friend. Since when was she famous?

He hadn't talked to her since the Fourth of July before senior year. The memory engulfed him in sadness.

Brandy was upset, tears in her eyes. "Eddie what the hell," she said. Lucas Zumann was sitting next to her. They had come together. As friends. Eddie didn't like it one bit.

"You have to damn choose, Brandy. Him, or me."

Brandy had tears streaming down her face. Eddie hated to see her cry, but he needed to know. He needed to know she would choose him. It was the worst decision he had ever made.

"What the fuck, Eddie! Calm down! What's wrong with you?"

Eddie's expression had been stone cold, "nothings wrong with me, Brandy. The real question is why haven't you chosen yet? Am I really equal to Lucas in your heart?"

Brandy began crying harder. Why was this such a hard decision for her.

"Eddie stop you're upsetting her!" Lucas had yelled, frantically trying to comfort Brandy.

"No. She's chosen her side. Bye Brandy."

Eddie had stormed off, leaving a sobbing Brandy in Lucas' arms.

Eddie was jolted out of his memory by the familiar sound of Brandy's voice through the tv.

"Hi David. I'm doing well today. How are you?" she sounded so calm. So put together. So not... Brandy. Eddie could see right through her act. That Brandy? That Brandy on the television? She was fake.

"I'm doing just fine. Now today I'd like to talk to you about your smash hit, It Didn't Have to be Like This. Was there anything in specific that made you want to write the song?"

Eddie gasped. He had heard that song on the radio the other day, having no idea it belonged to Brandy. His Brandy. A big star. Well, not his Brandy anymore.

"Uh, yes," Brandy began, "all songs originate from somewhere, and that one happens to be very near and dear to my heart. Before my senior year in high school, a little over a year ago, I really really liked this guy."

Probably Lucas.

"We were really good friends. Best friends, really. But we were at this Fourth of July party, and he started acting really weird. He told me I had to choose between him and one of my other good friends. I broke down and started crying. Then he left, and I lost my best friend. I ran home afterwords and wrote a song. We haven't spoken since." she sounded distant, and I wanted to scream.

Brandy had written a song about him. Brandy had liked him back. He was the douche bag in her love story. He fucked up.

Eddie ran to to his car. New York. The David Letterman show was filmed in New York.

He turned the key and zoomed away.

New York was only about an hour away from his house, so when he got there, Brandy was just leaving the studio.
