Chapter 29
Clyde's POV
As soon as I went into the shop I called Drew, desperately hoping he would pick up. After a few rings he answered, and I about died of happiness because he was safe.
"Clyde? Is this you? Are you okay? Please Clyde, say something!" Drew was concerned and worried. "Drew, you need to come back to the restaurant now." I said urgently. "Clyde what happened?" Drew asked. "You need to get here ASAP. I'll explain everything when you get here." I said. "Clyde-" "No more questions! Just hurry please!" I said cutting Drew off. I abruptly hung up on him, not wanting to argue with him any longer.
What was taking Drew so long? Every minute with out him made me realize how much I have been depending on him for support. Being with out him made me feel like I was falling, and every second he wasn't by my side I was getting closer to crashing. I knew it wasn't healthy to depend so heavily on one person, but I was too invested to turn back now.
I finally could see Drew's car advancing towards me. He hopped out of his car and I ran over to him as fast as I could. "Clyde I am so happy you're okay." Drew said taking my face in his hands. I smiled sadly at him, not wanting to rain on his parade. "Drew, I'm not okay" I said my smile disappearing. Drew's face washed over with confusion. "We're not okay." I corrected myself. "What do you mean we're not okay." Drew asked obviously not following what I was saying.
After explaining what had happened in that past twenty minutes, Drew drove us both home totally forgetting about my car parked in the lot back at the burger shop. He kept muttering things to himself about 'how this couldn't be happening' and 'that he was stupid for not realizing sooner'. Every time I would ask him what he was talking about he would give me this blank stare, and continue to drive.
I was terrified, Drew has never acted so distracted before. Drew was the type of guy that had everything under control, and even if he didn't he still kept a calm composure and pretended that he did. Not once in the entire time that I've known him, has he acted so out of it. I was honestly extremely worried about him.
It had been thirteen minutes and thirty two seconds since Drew had last murmured his crazy thoughts of his... at least I think it was thirteen minutes and thirty two seconds. I was nervous and my palms were unusually sweaty. It felt like Drew was a ticking time bomb, and at any given moment he could explode. I tried getting him to talk, but he just ignores me. I decided it was time for me to give up trying to talk to him.
Once, we got home Drew bursted out of the car faster than a rocket. I ran after him, in attempt to knock some sense into him.
"Drew stop!" I yelled at him, before we could go inside his house. He wouldn't stop, and I tried stopping him with all my my might, but he was too strong. At that moment I noticed how much Drew changed. He had dark circles around his eyes showing how stressed he had become, he had gotten taller, and became really muscular not to the point it was weird but like a good muscular. I know this was a bad time, but I was kinda turned on by how hot he looked right now.
Drew slammed the door in my face, knocking me out of my daze. I went to the door to open it, only to find it was locked. I started to laugh hysterically, because our situation was damn hopeless. Drew is acting like he belonged to a fucking insane asylum, Nicole was very pregnant, Kira hates my guts, and I'm still an emotional train wreck. "This is so fucking perfect!" I yelled.
I started slamming my fist against the door, until Nicole opened the door. "Clyde you better tell me what the hell is going on right now." Nicole said in all seriousness, the most serious I have ever seen her. What is wrong with everyone? Why is this happening to us? "We need to leave the town as soon as possible." I told her, trying to hold on to all the sanity I had left. "What are you talking about." Nicole said rolling her eyes. "A gang is after Kira, and if we don't leave now that same gang is going to murder all of us until they get what they want." I told her bluntly. Nicole's face became paler than snow. "No, this can't be happening. I thought they would just leave us alone. I never thought that they would find us." Nicole said stumbling backwards.
It all happened so slowly. Nicole slipped on the rug which she was standing on, fell backwards, and hit her head on the table. I saw her eyes roll back into her sockets as she fell. I tried catching her, but I wasn't quick enough. She was out cold.
I fumbled in my purse, searching for my phone. "911 what's your emergency?" A calm sounding lady answered. "M-my boyfriend's mom, she slipped on her rug and hit her h-head on the table. She landed pretty hard on her back, she passed out, and pregnant! Please hurry!" I choked out. "Ambulances are coming to assist you as we speak, just hold on." The woman said still calm. I hung up and a string of curses came out of my mouth. "What the fuck am I supposed to do now?" I muttered to myself.
"Drew!" I yelled at the top of my lungs. "I'm busy!" He yelled back. I have honestly never been more irritated at Drew in my entire life. "Too busy to help tend to your passed out mother?!" I snapped back at him. In no longer than ten seconds Drew was right beside Nicole in shock. "W-what happened." Drew asked worriedly. "I told her what was going on, she went in to panic, slipped on the rug, hit her head on the table, and passed out." I recited the story. "What the hell is wrong with you?!" Drew yelled at me, his eyes filled with anger. I was taken back, Drew has never yelled at me with so much hate or anger. "You don't ever fucking tell my mom something that bluntly! She-she just can't handle it, okay?! She gets panicked, and it never turns out well." Drew said running his hand through his hair trying to calm himself down.
I heard the sirens outside and saw Drew pick his mother up. With out hesitation he opened the door and placed his mother on the gurney. He didn't even look back when he went inside the EMT, leaving me all alone on his front lawn.
I could understand why he was upset with me, but it was just shocking that he had yelled at me with so much frustration. Drew has never yelled at me like that before, and I was hurt.
