I was so happy that my son approved of James' marriage proposal to me.
"Can you believe he said yes? He can't wait to have you in the same environment." I quickly twisted my words.
"Say it."
"Say what?"
"You know what you wanted to say..."
"Uh..."
"D-D-D"
"James, I'm sorry I didn't mean to put so much press-"
"Relax. I am more than willing to be a dad to him. Ever since I met him he has felt like a son to me."
I smiled sheepishly.
"You sure?"
"I'm sure. now please can you relax and can we go to the botique to browse for wedding gowns."
Sure thing. We walked across the street and as we were about to enter the botique, we bumped into Lizelle and White. I wanted to comment but I just put up a quick fake smile and went on with James.
They were looking really cosy. Wow.
The day went by so fast. James and I decided to sit down for lunch at some restaurant in town. We were enjoying our meal when someone spoke closely to my ear.
"Fancy seeing you guys here."
"Lizelle. What a surprise..."James seemed uncomfortable and said nothing.
"Well, enjoy your day then ." I quickly said just to dismiss her and White.
White looked at me with hopeful eyes that I wouldn't tell Samuel. What was I going to say anyway? We were apart and not in touch.
I was in the middle of my meal when my phone rang. It was Samuel. I wasn't sure whether to answer it or tell James about it, so I just rejected it.
Being the Wonder Woman I am, I excused myself from the table.
"Excuse me. I just need the bathroom."
"Don't be too long." James said.I rushed into the bathroom and pulled my phone out from my purse. I returned his call.
"Samuel! What do you want!"
"Hey. Courtney. Don't mind me I was just checking on you"
"Well, don't!" I hung up.I powdered my nose and went back to James.
Shortly after I sat James had to leave for an emergency.
"Babe, I'm gonna have to go." James said.
"Anything the matter?" I asked concerned.
"I have an emergency patient."
"Psychiatrist much?"
"You could say. Here's money for the bill and a cab. Will you be okay." he asked.
"Yeah, sure don't worry."
"See you later." he kissed me.I waited until I saw his car disappear. I paid the bill and went to the card shop. I bought flowers, a basket of healthy snacks and a card. It was for Samuel. I hadn't gone to see how he was coping. Something about that phone call told me he wasn't alright. If anything, I don't want people dying before we make things right.
I called a cab to come pick me up and take me home.Problem. How was I going to get these through the house?
I arrived at the house, hoping my car was not locked. I quickly snuck to the garage. I walked to the car door.
"Lord, let it be unlocked. Please."
I held the door handle and to my surprise I had not locked my car. Dangerous move but needed at this stage.I put the basket, flowers and card in the back seat before entering the house.
