"Courtney. Courtney. Courtey Cox!" he called out.
I turned to look at who it was. There was a moment of silence. Our eyes met and I saw the boy who made me feel like an angel when we were younger. I also saw the boy who broke me. I saw a flash of our life together. We stared at each other when I finally broke the silence.

"It's Jenkins, now. Hey Sam, how are you?" I was happy to see him.
"I am fine, thanks. It has been a while hasn't it?" he smiled.
"Very long while. Come, sit and have coffee."
"Sure, why not."

"What have you been up to?"
"Oh you know me. The boutique is now internationally known. I'm pursuing my second degree and my wedding is coming up."
"I thought you said you're already married."
"Yes. In the court of law. I haven't had my Western wedding yet...uhm..." I paused. "You're welcomed to come, really." I continued.
"Oh, no...I wouldn't want to gate crash."
I put my hand on his "Sam...it's an invitation especially from me. Come on."
I could see he had the urge to ask me something and I was surprised when he eventually did.
"Will... my son be there?"
"You mean Mitchell? Yes of course. He's my little best man. He's 6 turning 7 soon."
"Oh...that's wonderful."
"And how's your...daughter doing?" I was not sure how to bring that up because I didn't know if he had adopted her as his.
"Oh uhm...she's fine...I'm assuming."
"Yeah yeah."  I didn't want to go into detail.
"Uhm..yeah not that she's mine but she's okay."

I smiled at him. He looks broken. A broken I couldn't fix anymore because I had my own life to start over now.

"Well...how's married life treating you?" I asked instead.
"Oh, no I'm divorced now, Courntey." he said.
"That's awful. I'm sorry, Sam. I know you will meet someone good for you."
"Really, Courtney?"
"Yeah."
"Because I think I had h--" he stopped.
I did not let him continue.I did not want to hear it.

"So, uhm I should get going. " I said.
"I will take care of the bill."
"Thanks. You have always been so generous."
But he wasn't generous with my heart, that I will admit.
As I stood up, he stopped me.
"Courtney, I would like to see him."
I froze...
"Uhm...that won't be as easy as it sounds, Samuel. He needs to decide if he wants to see you."
"I'm begging you, please Court."
"I will try..."

Without saying goodbye, I left him at the coffee shop.
