"And this is for you"

Alaska comes back from the hallway with a large present in her hands, placing it down in my lap.

"Oh stop it"

Honestly I couldn't understand why she'd gotten me something for my birthday. She'd given me more than enough already.

"Go on, open it"

Jack nudge my side where he's sat next to me, his presents laid out in front of him on the coffee table.

"Where do I begin?"

I let out a nervous chuckle, inspecting the large wrapped up box I now had in my hands.

Then I just begin to tear the paper, revealing what it really is.

"You can't be serious. Allie?!"

She smiles cheekily.

"These are fucking expensive Als and I told you I didn't need anything"

I read the description on the box. Beyerdynamic DT 770 pro. Closed diffuse-field studio headphones.

How could she possibly know I needed something like this, how the fuck had she been able to figure that out?

"I know but I feel like you deserve it, with all the shit that's happened recently and stuff"

"It'd have been enough with a fucking hug. Come on now, don't be silly"

She chuckles, hugging me from the side, me still in awe over the fantastic present she'd given me.

"I'm glad you enjoy it"

I roll my eyes at her, yet still with a small smile on my lips. She's amazing and I'm still not sure what I did to deserve someone like her.

"Anyway the others will be here anytime now so we need to get the drinks out"

Alaska stands up and I can tell she's wishing we were all alone right now, Jack's presence making our usual intimacy a lot harder.

Honestly it doesn't go a minute where I don't think of the things I could be doing with her if Jack wasn't here and I honestly pray for him to move out soon so that I'll be able to get myself my own place.

"You guys can't be normal, like just look at this"

She points at the amount of bottles that are stood on our counter, the cupboard still not being totally empty.

And I guess she's right, we weren't normal in any kind of way yet this is the state that I feel the best in.

The alcohol flowing in my veins making everything that little extra easy. Still I'd only had one shot and a couple of beers and soon this nice feeling of lightness would turn into a drunken haze that I won't remember when I wake up tomorrow.

And this is still only predrinks, we're all going out later on and I'd lie if I said that I won't get completely trashed.

I mean if there's one day in the year where it's allowed to get smashed that must be your own birthday.

"I'm surprised you realised that now"

I nudge her side, moving over to some of the others that Jack had just let in.

Mikey, George, Alex, Abe, Bert and some of their girlfriends.

"Oh there he is!!"

Mikey pulls me into a tight hug and I pretend to be disgusted, making the rest of the guys laugh out loud.
