Conor's POV

I wake up with a start, the sounds of my girlfriend being sick in the bathroom instantly making me leave the bed.

It's nothing new though. The last few weeks have been tougher than ever, Alaska's health decreasing rapidly. I'd gone from never having called an ambulance in my life to it coming up to three times only in the last thirty days.

She's pale as anything, her bones protruding underneath the shirt that she's wearing, the sight worrying me more than anything.

"I told you you shouldn't have eaten"

Somehow her medicine didn't do well with fatty foods and last night she'd insisted on tasting some of my pizza. Something that had triggered her massively.

I help her back to bed after she'd finished throwing up, her whole body shaking from exhaustion.

"Sleep"

She tugs on my arm to drag me with her into bed but there isn't much she can do, she's too weak anyway.

"Shhh, wait. We need to get you changed first"

I finally manage to pull her shirt over her head, leaving her sat topless on the edge of the bed. A sight that used to turn me on, nowadays all it did was make me realise how sick she actually is.

"I'm sorry Con"

Her apology made me tear up. It'd always been the other way around but still, seeing her this ill could potentially be the end of me.

I sit with her until she falls asleep, her slow and steady breaths making me miss the time where everything had been so easy.

It's four am when I text Jack, in need of someone to talk to right now.

Conor; You up?

A couple of minutes later does he reply, a short "Yup" coming through on my screen before I decide to go downstairs.

He's in his room editing and it's first when I see him that I properly break down.

You see, putting up an act for Alaska works to some extent but if it weren't for Jack's constant support I don't think I'd be able to handle it.

He holds me for a few minutes, letting me get everything I'd been holding in, out, his arms around my trembling body.

It's crazy that I'm supposed to be the older brother when Jack always has been the one to comfort me when things get tough. He's never left my side. Since the break up with Victoria has he always stayed right beside me through it all.

"I don't know what to do jack. I hate to see her suffer like this"

Nodding does he pull away, the video he's working on still up on his laptop screen.

"How is it looking with the whole America trip?"

Alaska had finally agreed with letting me pay for her hospital fees so that she'd get the treatment she was in a massive need of. It'd taken weeks of persuading though and it all had been taken longer than expected. Meaning she only got worse the longer we waited.

"I mean if she doesn't start to feel better any time soon we probably won't even be able to go"

"She's a fighter Conor, she'll make it through"

***

*Two weeks later*

We've finally got an all clear from Alaska's doctor. LA here we come and Alaska's surprisingly well for once. It's hard to think that I thought I would lose her a couple of weeks ago only for her to run around the flat like a crazy woman this morning.
