Our first encounter was subtle, it was a time I thought I wasn't ready,
But you were so gentle and you promised me we'd take it steady,
You gave me your whole world but I didn't know it would be this heavy,
It slipped right out of my hands and now our love is messy.
I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to get us into this mess,
You were always so good to me and I promise you I'm trying my best,
But I feel like now we're too far out of reach and we should just lay this to rest,
It's disappointing to know we started out so strong but managed to fail the test,
Months of time just gone to waste, it's like starting life anew,
It's hard to go out again without the companionship of you,
The tragedy of us haunts me at night and I hope it does for you too,
My dreams consist of letting go of the hand of the boy I once knew.
