"Things are looking good," the doctor nods taking some of the edge off of my pain, but Shawn still won't look up. "It seems to be epilepsy." He nods forcing Shawn's head in his direction.
"She's a baby how could she have epilepsy?" He seems offended by his diagnosis, but I'm rather happy it wasn't anything else.
"Some problems in the womb maybe? Development issues, or she was just born with it." He explain shrugging slightly. "It won't matter now because she's got it." He rolls his eyes towards Shawn who scoffs and stands.
"I'm asking for a new nurse," he growls pushing past this one.
"Control him or we'll send him out." The nurse growls at me. I don't control him, I shouldn't. We're both adults who can make our own choices. Unfortunately Shawn keeps making impulsive decisions.
"We're getting a new one," he nods sitting next to me. He's so quiet, and sad, he feels really awful about our little girl.
"Lucy called us," my parents walk in which surprises me a little. "Is everything alright? She said you were hurt." I sigh a little, Lucy knew they wouldn't have come for our little girl. "And you, how could you let her get hurt after all you've already put her through!"
"I'm not hurt," I call to them while Shawn tries to get them to back off as politely as possible. "But our baby girl is." I explain and they roll their eyes sitting farther away.
"We drove out here for your daughter?" They spit at us searching for Lucy who called them down here in fear for our little girl.
"Geoff called us," his parents rush in embracing him and expressing their sympathy for our little girl. Mine yell for being told.
"Come here," Shawn sighs at me bringing me into his arms, his family embraces me too. "It's gonna be ok," he nods repeating my words in the ambulance. "She's gonna be alright."
"Don't yell at anymore doctors." I beg him. "She won't get the good ones if you do."
"I just want her to have the best, and that doctor was awful." He kisses my cheek trying to make up for it. "But I guess I'll stop yelling." He sighs as if it pains him but nods anyways.
"Thank you," I smile while he presses a kiss against my lips.
"Anything for my girls." He smiles resting his head on mine while his family surrounds us with their condolences.
"She's looking good," the one doctor Shawn does like smiles at us. "We'll bring you two back if you want, she'll be out in a couple hours." Shawn wipes the corners of his eyes and stands not even thinking about letting me down.
"Let her walk," my parents growl. "She has both her legs, she can do it."
"Go see her," Shawn puts me down and sighs. "I can't do it." He sighs. "I'll go home and get a car and her car seat and I'll be back."
"And now you wont even visit your own kid?" They laugh bitterly at him.
"Leave," I point quite harshly actually. "Don't come back to see me, you are never allowed to see my daughter, and if you say one more nasty thing about my fiancé." I throw it in just to make them angrier. "Then I will get a restraining order." I grab his hand and drag him to the back with me. "I know your parents brought a car." I chuckle at him.
"Where did you come from? Little miss feisty." He smiles kissing my head while he carries me, still, to our daughters room.
"She's been crying," The nurse chuckles while the door opens she screams a little louder but once she can see us she's calm and quiet.
"Look at you," Shawn chuckles touching her smile hand which wraps around his finger. "You bugger, have you been making everyone miserable?" He tickles her gently but she doesn't do much, only squirms.
"Can I hold her?" I question hospital staff who nod. We got in last night, and we stayed until now. Today is the day, she's six weeks, and it's been six weeks since my appointment so I'm allowed to hold her.
"This is so exciting." He giggles pulling his phone from his pocket and starts recording while I lift her slowly. She makes a little noise and I can feel her drool against my shoulder when I get her there. "Try cradling her, she likes being cradled." He nods with a smile. I switch her to the cradling position and watch her little head nuzzle into my chest while she looks up at my with wide eyes. I smile down at her and Shawn soon comes over still filming the little video he smiles at her too.
"Did you see that?" I gasp a little and he laughs.
"Baby girl you smiled at us." He kisses my cheek and she pouts so he leans down and kisses hers, it earns us another smile.
"God she's perfect." He ends his video and takes her from my arms, after asking, very nicely.
"When'd you learn how to do that?" He smiles kissing her cheeks. "When?" I smile watching him and the bond he's created with our little girl, one I'm determined to have.
"She only smiled when I first held her so it's because of me." I shrug smugly and he scoffs.
"What's to say she's never smiled at me before?" He challenges.
"Did you not see how excited you got ten seconds ago or do I need to pull up your video?" He smiles laying her on his shoulder and grabbing my hand.
"We made a beautiful girl," he pulls me against him as well.
"We did," I nod with a wide smile.
"I'm going back to work tomorrow," he kisses my head while our baby girl drools on him. She's perfect.
"Really?!" I gasp in excitement and he rolls his eyes.
"Do you and Angel wanna come with me?" He smiles kissing her head. Skylar Angelique Mendes. He wanted to give her my name but I refused. I picked her first name, Angelique was the one we'd decided on but Shawn says I was really keen on Skylar while I was on all of my meds.
"Sure, we'll bring some play mats, and we'll play on the ground." I smile at her, Shawn kisses her head and she tries to kiss him back, but she just ends up drooling. She's so perfect.
"Are you spitting on me?" He shakes his head at her.
"She's trying to kiss you back," I mumble with a sad smile looking at her. I didn't think I'd ever get her, I didn't think I could have kids but I never told Shawn. He was very keen on having one and now that we do all I want is more.
"Oh precious," he smiles kissing her gently. The little girl deserves everything.
"Are you excited to go back to work?" He lays the baby down at the nurses request and he starts cuddling me instead.
"Kinda," he mumbles shyly. "Then I can be the boss." He smiles evilly.
"The only time you're allowed to be." I chuckle and he rolls his eyes.
"Not the only time," he smiles kissing my cheek while his parents enter.
"How's she doing?" Aaliyah pushes her way to the front looking at her niece. Her little niece.
"She's good," Shawn smiles grabbing her smile hand. She rests her head against it. "She's all better." He nods lifting her back up as soon as he can.
"She's all smiley," I giggle while she smiles at me. She's more than tiny and it makes her that much more adorable. They told us she was a healthy size, and weight wise she is, but she's not very tall.
"Someone is super smiley," Aaliyah chuckles kissing her little hands. "So smiley."
"It only took six weeks and a seizure." Shawn rolls his eyes and I chuckle hugging him from behind.
"I love you," I whisper resting my head right next to my baby girls.
"I love you too,"
