Chapter 2

Kat's POV setting: New York, at the orphanage Sam and Kat live in.

I laughed as Adam (sky) screamed while falling into a pit of lava. I was watching the hunger games with Adam, Ty (deadlox), Darton, and Tyler (munchingbrotato). I loved watching Adam. He always made me laugh, but I also love watching Tyler too. I kinda have a crush on him. Just his hair, his eyes, and his... then my best friend Sam came in the room. I quickly closed my laptop.

"Hi Kat. Wait, what were you doing?"

"Um nothing." I lied. I knew she didn't buy it though.

"Kat you need to stop watching Adam and Tyler for a little bit. You've been up here for over 4 hours!"

"I'll do that when you stop reading the Mortal Intstruments (you get a cookie if you know what this is) and stop fantasizing about Jace." I said with a smirk. She was not happy with me right now.

"It's not my fault he has the same last name as me!" Yup. She was mad.

"Yea yea. Now what did you really want?"

"It's time for me to see Steele. She needs food."

"Fine." I said a quick spell and a white alicorn appeared.

"Steele!" Sam said as she ran over to give her a hug.

"While you do that I'm gunna keep watching videos."

"Wait. I want you to show you something." She came over and took my computer and started typing on it.

"What?" I was annoyed. I wanted to see who won the hunger games.

"Oh just this family tree thing. I didn't know you were related to....." I cut her off by saying,

"No Sam. You know my parents died in a car crash when I was 12. All my relatives don't want me. They think I'm just a joke."

"Ok. So you don't want to know that you're related to Adam."

"Yea right."

"No seriously look." Sam turned the computer screen toward me. I was about to cry of happiness. Right below my great grandfather's name was: Adam Dalhberg (for those of you who don't know that is his real name)

"Sam do you know what this means?" I said as I started shaking Sam.

"N..o..wh..at?" I stopped shaking her.

"I have to go tell Adam!"

"I thought he lived in Seattle?" Sam said, looking worried.

"He does but right now he should be at Pax East which is being held a few miles away from here!" I need to tell Adam. He would take me under his wing, right? I couldn't doubt myself. I needed to get out of this place anyway. I look over to Sam who was crying.

"Sam what's wrong?" I said while hugging her.

"Your leaving and probably never coming back." She said, crying even harder now.

"Sam I'm going to leave but we can still stay in touch. I will never, ever, forget you." Great now I was crying.

"Hey, wanna help me get packed? I'll give you a gift when I'm done."

"Fine." She said. She had stopped crying by now. Then we started to pack.

~Time skip~ (cause you won't wanna read about them packing)

"Done!" I said in relief. I had shrank my bags so that I could put them in a backpack. I was going to fly there, and what I mean by that is turn into a bird.

"Ok now you said you had a gift for me?" Sam asked. She still looked so sad. I was going to miss her a lot.

"Yea but you need to stand still and relax." I put my hands in a circular form and a colorful orb started to appear.

"Wait what?!"

"Relax Sam! Now this may hurt a little, but if you stay RELAXED you will be fine." Then I went back to concentrating. The orb started to get bigger and bigger. This was draining my power. "Please don't faint." I thought to myself. When the colorful orb was a little bit bigger than my head, I threw it toward Sam. Colors of light formed around her as she started to get lifted off the ground. I heard a scream. " Sam!" I yelled. Then everything stopped and Sam's limp body was on the ground. I ran over to her.

"Sam?"

"Ugh. What. What happened?" I looked down at her clothes. The spell worked.

"Look for yourself in the mirror." Sam got up slowly and looked at herself in the mirror.

"Omg I'm a shadow hunter! I have the gear and everything! Thank you Kat!" She came over and hugged me.

"No problem Sam. You are my best friend of course. Now use your glamor to hide Steele from people. Remember, only shadow hunters and witches can see you with glamor on."

"Yea yea I know." She rolled her eyes. "Well I guess this is goodbye."

"Yea. I'll stay in touch with you. Bye Sam. I'll miss you." I hugged her, put on my backpack, and turned into a bird.

"Bye!" Sam said as I flew out the window. Time to go meet my cousin.

Sam's POV

"Bye!" I said as Kat flew out the window. I grabbed my stuff which wasn't a lot and put it in my backpack. I put glamor on Steele and I so no one would see us. I got on Steele's back and we flew out the window after Kat, keeping our distance so she wouldn't be able to see us. I was following her. There is now way I was going to leave my best friend that easily.
