I called Lucas for the fourth time but it went straight to voicemail... again.
"Dillyn you talk to Lucas today?"
"Yeah, last time I talked ta him he said he was gettin ready" He said fixing his graduation cap.
Layla rubbed my back. "Don't worry baby, He gon make it" she said.
I shook my head no. "they call names to get the diplomas in like 5 minutes and we're gonna be one of the first ones called"
"if he don't make it he can always get it another time kay" she said kissing my cheek.

"i'm so proud of you baby" my mom said kissing my forehead. I smiled.
"Both of my babies graduated" she said smiling. Marlon glanced at me then at the ground.
"what's wrong Marlon" I asked. He shook his head.
"you growing up dats all" he said hugging me.
Layla ran up behind me.
"we graduated baby" she said smiling. I smiled back.
My mom cleared her throat making everyone look at her.
"oh mom this is Layla, my baby. Lay this is my mom" I said moving out the way.
"hi mom" she said hugging her.
"hi Layla it's nice to finally meet you" my mom said pinching my arm.
"where's Lucas" She asked.
Layla shrugged my shoulders. "I guess he couldn't make it."
My mom nodded her head. "well hopefully I get to meet him soon"
"alright well i'll be back Mari, then we can leave" Layla said before walking off.
"i'll be back mom" I said before walking away.
I stepped outside real quick to call Lucas again. He finally answered.
"wassup." I couldn't really hear him clearly. There was loud music in the back.
"where you at?"
I heard shuffling a little bit before he answered.
"home why?"
"ion know Lucas, You kind of missed your graduation"
"I know i'll get my diploma later"
"whats wrong with you, why didn't you come?"
"got other stuff to do"
"okay your on that dumb shit now."
"ion feel like hearing no lectures or none of that shit right now so ima just hang up" he said.
"your the dumbest nigga I ever met!" I yelled into the phone before hanging up on him.
