Lin's POV:
"I want nothing to do with you. If you excuse us we were on a walk."
She stood her ground as I rolled my eyes, I tried to get past her but Jon wouldn't budge either.
"For god's sake! Both of you?"
"Vanessa, right?"
"Jonathan."
I looked between the two of them for a while although they both seemed calm.
"Is there something I don't know?"
"Listen, V, it was a mistake okay?"
"Never call me that again."
Vanessa was glaring at Jon, if looks could kill he'd be buried by now.
"If you could kindly let us past, I have your number Vanessa, I'll call you to talk."
She nodded and moved aside, still glaring at Jon. Uncomfortably, I tugged him and he followed beside me as we passed her.
"Care to explain?"
He shrugged it off and walked on in silence. Kicking a stone as he stepped.
"Oh no, this is not happening again. Don't you think I've witnessed enough withheld information? Speak."
He halted and sighed heavily before swivelling around to look me in the eyes.
"V and I, we had a past."
I rolled my eyes with that.
"Seems everyone has."
"Really helpful. Me and her were friends, only for a while. Me, her and Matt -"
If I had a coffee I'd have spat it out. He can't mean the same Matt who murdered -?
"Matt?!"
"Yeah? Why?"
There's no time for that now. Concentrate Lin for god's sake.
"Just someone I know - too well for my liking perhaps."
I motioned for him to continue despite my brain telling him to shut up now he's mentioned that motherfucker who almost killed me and Stacy.
"Well, it was the three of us. Until I thought I saw something and ratted them out. Turns out it was all a big misunderstanding but they still got punished for what they didn't do."
Sounds familiar...
"What was that?"
"I saw them stealing from a bank. Turns out they were just making sure they paid every penny back from their recent transaction."
I heavily face-palmed. How is he so gullible? Andrew had better pay for ruining his innocence so brutally. Honestly if I had to look him in the eyes again -
"Are you okay? You look like you're gonna murder someone."
I laughed sarcastically.
"Mhmm wonder who?"
He went silent and looked to the ground. Damn it why did I have to mention that? Quickly moving to comfort him I lifted his chin to see tears running down his cheeks. Andrew has a death wish and I sure as hell won't hesitate to give it to him.
"You loved him. Didn't you?"
Jon meekly nodded as I sighed. Andrew Rannells will pay time and will go to jail, I won't let any more criminals get away with it. I've been affected, Jon's been affected and my dearest Stacy. I took a deep breath before delivering a speech for Jon but also myself.
"You gotta be careful with this world - it's out to get us for every mistake we make. Just - Just keep going okay? It's hard and I know that firsthand trust me. You're gonna get kicked, punched, and freaking strangled by bad luck but - you either give up or keep going. And you sure as hell aren't giving up on me. You got that? You better not. I'm gonna be here - always. You can trust me, I'm nice. Relationship? Love? It's a bitch that will come back to bite you in the ass. Just keep going. If I can - you can."
He nodded, still looking down but he nodded. It was a miracle. I quickly used his lack of sight to wipe away the tears so he didn't see me crying. I'm supposed to be the strong one here. For some reason a little voice in my head told me it was going to be okay in the end, there will be a lot of falls and barriers but, some way, somehow, me and Jon we're going to make it. Too much has happened to us for there to be any more really. We only really had each other through all of this and that's how it'll stay.
"Are you okay Jon?"
He took a deep breath shaking himself off.
"I think so."
I chuckled lightly as he laughed too as we hugged. I looked to the sky and saw Stacy watching me. Thank you I whispered up to her and watched her dazzling smile. Maybe we weren't together but she was still with me. I had Jon, and we both had Stacy watching over us. And our little blessings Ariella and Isaac were waiting at my parents' house with their wonder and curiosity. It wasn't a happy ending - that was for sure. But it was a story to tell, maybe it'll be made into a book somewhere. Or even a musical. I smiled at the thought as Jon released himself from the hug. I stood up and brushed myself off thinking of the future and where it'll lead. Being a single parent will be tough but I know I've got the support I need to get through it. Besides, now I know exactly what I'll say if the kids ask where their mother is. The whole story. Start to finish, with a couple of snack breaks in between. They will learn of Stacy's beauty, her inspiration, her warmth and how much she cared for all of us. And, most importantly, I'll tell them she will never be gone for good. She's still with the Miranda family. Always will be. So that she will never be forgotten.
"What are you thinking about?"
"Huh?"
"Lin your smiling like a maniac."
"Well I think we need a cheering up."
Jon smiled at me rolling his eyes.
"What shall we do now then? We could go to the lake, have a picnic, go for a run, continue walking, stay on this big old uncomfortable bench. Umm..."
"Jon?"
"Yeah?"
"Let's head home."
