Day 1. Stage 1.
I sat in the dark school library, wondering where it all went wrong. I held a flashlight to the chalkboard I had filled with formulas, going over the formula over and over again until it was engraved in my brain. I went through the day, trying to remember exactly what happened... but nothing made sense. I had been working on a formula for my chemistry project. I had combined the correct chemicals to make a medicine that could cure Psittacosis, also known as Parrot Fever. It wasn't a huge disease to cure, but it had just been for the fun of it. However, things took a turn when my dog came running in and knocked over the test tube, spilling it on the ground. He had then turned around, licked it off of the floor, then trotted off. I didn't think anything of it until about an hour later....
*Flashback*
"Mom?" I asked, hearing a strange noise coming from her bedroom. I creaked open the door, immediately regretting the quick decision. Gurgles and moans turned towards me, the person who was once my mom was now replaced with a being who was unnaturally pale and had giant boils covering every inch of her skin. Her eyes were rolled back, so only white showed in the sockets. She growled.
"Oh, hi," I said awkwardly, trying to figure out the best way of not being killed. She twitched her head in an inhumane way, the bones cracking along with the movement. I cringed before sprinting down the hallway towards the stairs. I jumped down, skipping a few steps every now and then, hearing the monster chase after me. Her bones creaked with every step, and she was much faster than the zombies spoken of in classic films. Her bony fingers clawed out for my hair, slurs of some language spoken every now and then.
I screamed, which was probably an awful idea because only then did I see the rest of my family coming my way down the hall, looking almost as bad as my mom. I screamed once more, darting for the front door. They all mumbled and tried to corner me as I fumbled with the lock.
"Come on, come on!" I yelled, frantically twisting around all of the metal pieces. As soon as a boiled hand reached my shoulder, I swung open the door and swatted the hand away. My mom screeched and lunged at me, only for me to punch her in the face as hard as I could.
"O-oh my gosh, I am so sorry!" I cried as I ran the other way, "Where should I go, where should I go?"
I panicked before realizing that no one was at school today- after all, it was a Sunday.
"School library, that's where I go."
