"Peter!" I yelled and stormed into the living room. Nat and Clint looked up from their comic books. A smirk grew on Clint's face.
"Trouble in paradise?" he laughed. Natasha flicked his temple.
"You're hilarious," I rolled my eyes and looked around the room, "Where's Peter?"
"He heard your footsteps and ran down the hall," Nat gave me a curious smile, "I had figured you would've bumped into him."
I groaned and tilted my head towards the ceiling- sure enough, an innocent smile was plastered onto an upside-down Peter Parker.
"Parker, get down here right now," I crossed my arms and let my Switch hang from one hand.
"Ooh, she sounds mad," Sam walked into the room, "What did the spider kid do this time?"
"She didn't tell me," Clint shrugged, continuing to read his comic. Bucky walked in from the kitchen. He looked at the scene before turning and walking back out.
"Peter stole my tarantula," I scolded, "Pete, I'm not joking. Get down here."
"No," he finally responded, "Not until you promise not to hit me."
"Fine," I whined, "I won't hit you."
Peter hopped down from the ceiling and landed in his signature pose. He stood with a guilty smile. I reached over and flicked his temple. Peter yelped in pain.
"That's my girl," Nat laughed as she flipped the page. Peter grabbed the side of his head with a frown.
"I'm sorry!" he spoke unconvincingly, "I needed the money."
"So did I!" I shouted back and pointed at my game, "I have a 198,000 dollar loan to pay off!"
"And I'm no longer curious," Sam muttered and walked to the kitchen.
"I want to expand another room, though!" Peter continued and pointed at the switch of his own, "I'll let you visit whenever you want."
"You already let me visit whenever I want," I mumbled. Peter held back a smile and pulled me close to him, wrapping his arms around me tightly. I smiled at the gesture.
"If I get us ice cream will you forgive me?" he smiled down at me. I glared, failing to hide a smile back.
"Can you get me the one with brownies in it?" I asked with a grin. He smiled wider.
"I'm on it," he let go of me and ran to the kitchen. I stared at where he was, lost in thought. Peter and I had been dating for two months now- but no one knew except for Peter and me. And we were planning on keeping it that way.
Peter and I sat on the couch in his apartment, watching Star Wars: A New Hope. A popcorn bowl was in between the two of us, almost empty even though the movie had only started about twenty minutes ago. I stared intently at the screen before getting the feeling that someone was looking at me. Glancing at the boy beside me, I met his soft brown eyes staring back at me.
"What?" I laughed and gave him my full attention. He widened his eyes and his cheeks tinted pink.
"I- uh-" he shook his head, "N-nothing."
"Well now you have to tell me," I glanced at the TV and back at the boy, "What's on your mind?"
He sat up and looked down at his hands, nervously wringing them together. I moved the popcorn bowl to the floor and shifted to face him, crossing my legs Indian style.
"You know you can tell me anything, right?" my heart nervously beat in my chest. I could practically hear my pulse quicken. Peter seemed like he was mentally arguing with himself.
"___, we've been friends for a while now," he started. I furrowed my eyebrows and nodded, urging him to continue, "And- uh- well you're really great. No! That's not what I meant- wait, no, well you are great, but that's not-"
"Pete," I tilted my head to get him to look back at me, "You don't have to be nervous around me."
"That's the problem, though!" he laughed, throwing his hands in the air and letting them fall back in his lap, "I get so nervous around you. You're gorgeous and brilliant and I want to be more than just a friend!"
He widened his eyes more- something I didn't know was even physically possible- and looked back down at his hands. I mimicked him. Peter Parker likes me? I felt like a giddy child on Christmas morning.
"I'm sorry, that was a mistake," he shook his head and reached for the popcorn bowl, "Just- just forget I said anything."
"Pete," I grabbed his hand to prevent him from getting up, "I want to be more than just a friend, too."
He looked me in the eye once again, searching for any sign of a lie.
"Really?" his voice cracked. I smiled brighter.
"Really," I nodded.
"How are you two not dating yet?" Clint spoke up again. I snapped out of my thoughts and looked at the couch, eyes wide and mouth slightly agape. They can't know. Specifically Clint and Sam can't know. Peter and I would never hear the end of it.
"It's not like that," I finally responded, "Peter and I are the only kids on this team. We were bound to become friends. But it stops there."
"Sure," was Clint's simple conclusion. I rolled my eyes as Peter walked back into the room, two bowls in hand. I smiled and grabbed the one he was offering me. I tilted my head towards the hallway and he took the hint, following me back to my room.
"Something happen?" He asked with a mouthful of ice cream, sitting on the edge of my bed. I took my seat next to him with a nod.
"Clint's suspicious," I spoke while moving my character towards the beach, "How long do you think we're gonna pull this off?"
Peter shrugged and put his head in my lap.
"I hate how many sea bass there are in this stupid game," I grumbled as I reeled in another fish. Peter laughed with a nod, his character running up to mine in the game. He cast out and reeled in an Oarfish.
"No fair!" I hit his arm half-jokingly, "This game is rigged."
"I just have talent," Peter joked back. I subconsciously began to play with his hair, moving the controls of the game with my free hand. It was difficult to say the least. I set down my device and watched Peter's screen, continuing to mess with his hair. His eyes slowly began to flutter closed, his console slipping from his hands and sliding to the space next to us. I smiled tiredly and shut my eyes as well, a hand still left in his hair as I fell asleep.
. . .
Natasha stuck out her hand expectantly, Clint grudgingly pulling a five dollar bill from his wallet and handing it over. She smiled at the kids as Clint gathered everyone else's attention to show them the news. Natasha shook her head and left them be, knowing that as soon as they woke up they would get an earful from the rest of the team.
