"Peter Parker," the teacher called for seat-check. I looked around trying to find the new student. No where. Suddenly, someone opened the door and a boy stepped in- brown hair and a blue sweater matched his quiet demeanor. I found myself smiling.
"Here," he told the teacher before being assigned the seat in front of me. He walked up and noticed my stare, smiling back quickly before sitting down.
*2 years later*
"Please, just open the door," Peter spoke from outside my bedroom. He knew about me and my random intrusive thoughts, but this episode was the worst by far. I was sitting on my bed, lights off, doors locked, and tear-stained cheeks. My thoughts wouldn't stop reminding me of how worthless I am. Truth is, no one else thinks that. The saying is true- I'm my own worst enemy. I sat on my bed, listening to my best friend trying to help me.
"Please," Peter continued worriedly, "___, you're scaring me. Please, I want to help-"
"Go away," my voice crackled.
"Not until you open the door."
"Please, Peter," I closed my eyes, "I promise, I'm fine.
"You're a terrible liar."
Something on my door clicked before it slowly opened, revealing the boy I had grown to love. Suddenly, I felt like I was sitting at my desk again and he was smiling at me for the first time. He stood in the doorway with a sympathetic expression on his face.
Before either of us could say anything, he walked forward and sat next to me, pulling me into a hug. It was a small gesture, but to me it meant everything. We sat in the dark, his arms tightly hugging me, and his head resting on my shoulder. I traced patterns on his arms, the calmness of the moment threatening to lull me into sleep.
Peter eventually spoke up, his voice gentle, "You don't have to go through this alone. I love you."
"You love me?" I looked up, slightly embarrassed by the state I was in.
"Of course I love you, you're beautiful, and kind, and you always make me happy, even when Aunt May can't. You're the most amazing person I know," he smiled down at me. In that moment, I felt like I was his entire world and he was mine.
"I love you, too."
