It had been hours, or at least it felt like it. I was still in a ball on the mattress, listening in the silence. I finally got up, my legs shakey. I wiped the dried tears from my face and walked out the door and slowly down the stairs. The man's body was gone, i was only one here. There was blood on the floor, so much blood. I tried to walk around it as i made my way through the hallway on the ground floor. I came across another staircase, i hesitated at first but then walked down them. It was a dark room, just like every other, but this one had no windows. What it did have though was a giant well in the middle of the floor, with brick stacked to about three feet tall. I walked over to it and looked down it, but there was nothing. Just like the hole in the closet, it seemed bottomless. I turned around, heading back up to the room. I wasn't going to leave, but i was tired and i knew i was safe.
I woke up to something heavy making the bed dip to my right. I was on my side, curled up in a ball and using my jacket as a blanket. It was freezing inside that house. I was exhausted, only able to open my eyes half way. I could see silk a few inches in front of my face, I knew it was Penny.

"Sleep." Was all he said.

I wasn't going to protest and quickly fell back asleep.

I finally woke up a while later, seeing Penny lying next to me, just watching me.
I didn't say anything and he didn't either.
"I have to go, Margaret is probably looking for me..." I said, getting up, wrapping my jacket around my front to keep me warm.
Penny stood up, still not saying anything.
I walked out of the house without a single word spoken between us.

I arrived back at my building, taking the elevator up to my floor. I walked down the hall and reached for my key in my bag. As I was looking for it I felt a hand grab my elbow.
"Where the fuck have you been?" I turned around to see Margaret.
"I went to stay at a hotel." I lied.
"A hotel?" She scoffed.
"Yeah, I needed some time." I said looking at her, waiting for the inevitable.
"I know what happened..." she looked to side, I could tell she was holding back tears. "Between you and Matt."
"Nothing happened between me and Matt." I said.
"Bullshit." She spat. "I saw you."
"Maggie, he kissed me, I swear. I would never do that to you. It happened so fast, I-"
"Save it" she said, holding out her hand, "I thought you were my friend." Was all she said,  walking away back down the hall.
I opened my door and entered the room. I stood on the inside, still holding the door handle. I looked up and soon as soon as I saw the red balloon still floating at my bed, I fell to the floor in sobs. Everything was going wrong.
