I sat on at the dining room as everyone began to sing and a cake was placed in front of me. The big numbers 3 & 9 were the last thing I saw before i closed my eyes and blew out the candles and made a wish. As the flames were gone everyone started cheering and I opened my eyes smiling.

"Alright you get to cut the first piece!" My mom said as she placed the cake back on the counter in the kitchen.

My parents started handing out cake and as i ate my piece i looked around the room. I couldn't help but smile to myself as I saw Maggie and Jack give each other a small kiss, they were so happy together and me made my heart swell. My eyes searched around the room for Robbie but I couldn't find him. It had been a hard few weeks since I told him the truth about his father and he'd been much more quiet, much more to himself. I finished up my cake and put the dishes in the sink as I went to go look for him. I walked down the hall, seeing the bathroom was empty and his bedroom light was off so I walked back into the kitchen and looked out the window into the backyard. There, i saw Robbie sitting on the swing set next to Esther. His long legs were stretched out in front of him as he sat on the swing with Esther slowly swinging beside him as they talked. I smiled to myself and decided to leave them alone, going back to the living room with everyone else.

"Thank you so much for coming." I said as i hugged Maggie.

"Happy birthday love" she said, hugging me back.

I gave Jack, Esther and my parents all hugs and thank you's as they left. Now it was just Robbie and I. I started cleaning up the small remaining mess as Robbie came over to me, giving me a hand.

"It's okay honey, i've got it" i said, giving him a small rub on the back reassuringly.

As i was finished cleaning up, Robbie came up to with an envelope in his hand.

"Happy birthday, Mom." he said as he handed it to me.

I looked up at him, giving him a small smile before opening it.

It was a card with a big heart on the front that read 'MOM'. I opened it and began reading the message inside.

To Mom,

First of all, happy birthday. 39 has never looked better. Thank you for everything you do for me. i know i don't say it as much as I should but i am really grateful for you. You've always been there for me, always loved and protected me. So once again, thank you. I love you.

- Your blue eyed boy.

Tears began rolling down my face as i closed the card.

"Mom don't cry." Robbie chuckled.

"You know me, you know i'm a crier." i chuckled back. "But thank you, honey. I love you." i said, giving him a kiss on the cheek and a hug.

"Robbie, it's time to wake up!" I yelled through his bedroom door.

Today was the first day of his senior year of high school. I couldn't believe it...

"Got everything you need?" I asked as Robbie grabbed an apple from the counter.

"Yes!" he said back.

"Okay, come on i've got to leave for work soon." i said grabbing my camera.

I walked out the front door, Robbie following behind and standing on the top step as i stood at the bottom.

"Ready?" i asked, putting my eye to the lens.

He smiled and i took a couple pictures.

"Alright, are we done?" He asked, getting fidgety.

"Hey, this is your last year, okay? Just let your mom live and have her pictures." i laughed.

"Okay well i got to go." he said as he kissed my cheek and headed to his car.

"Love you!" i yelled after him as he backed out of the driveway.

He honked his horn, signalling an 'i love you too'. I couldn't help my smile. My little boy is growing up.
