"Alright it's time for bed, little one." I said, trying to get up from Robbie and I's snuggle session on the couch.
"Mom, just a few more minutes, please?" He whined, batting his eyelashes at me.
"You've already been up 15 minutes past your bed time and school starts tomorrow. Gotta wake up bright and early!" I said, folding the blanket and putting it on the back of the couch.
He sulked his down to the bathroom to brush his teeth.

"Alright, goodnight my boy" I said, tucking him under the covers and handing him the clown stuffy he's had since the day he was born. "Do you want the light on or off tonight?"
"Off. I'm 7 now, Mom." He said.
"Oh right, okay." I said, kissing him on the forehead then switching the light off.

I fell back onto the couch, finally being able to relax. I turned on the television to Twin Peaks and got up to grab a glass of wine. Wine had become my best friend in the last few years, that and watching re-runs of 60 Minutes. I was only 28 years old but I felt like a 40 year old at heart.

As the episode to came a close I turned off the TV and headed to my room. I got dressed in my pyjamas then walked to my bathroom to get ready for bed.
Penny was still on my mind everyday, thinking what he was doing, even though I knew the answer. Robbie didn't ask much about his father, when he did I would tell him his Daddy had to go away for a while. On both Mother and Fathers day he would make me crafts at school, I have most of them either hanging on the fridge or in a box under my bed.
I crawled into bed and took off my glasses, closing my eyes.

I woke up to hear Robbie screaming, I ran down the hall and opened his door, giving him a big hug.
"It's okay, Mommy's here" I said rocking him back and forth.
The nightmares were a reoccurring thing, happening multiple times a week.
He would try to tell me what they were about but sometimes he would get so worked up, I would stop him. It seems they changed every week though. One week it's a giant dragon fly trying to take our house away and the next it was a lizard man who would bite at his fingers. I promise I'm not letting him watch scary shows, I've tried to find where all of this was coming from but I can't seem to. I guess he just has a wild imagination.
I picked him up, carrying him to my bed. I laid him down, then turned on my bathroom light as a night light.
He fell back asleep quickly, his chest rising and falling so calmly.

"Robert, hurry up we're going to be late" I shouted as I packed his lunch into his backpack.
"Okay, coming" his voice rang. "Like it?" He gestured to his outfit.
It was a nice pair of denim shorts, a Ren and Stimpy t-shirt with his converse... he got to pick his outfit first day of school.
"Yes, you look like you're ready for second grade." I smiled.
He got in the car and we were on our way to his first day.

"You doing okay?" I asked, helping him put his backpack on as we stood outside his class.
"I'm ready!" He said excitedly.
"Why hello, what's your name?" A woman in a button up and knit skirt asked him.
"Robert" he said back.
"Well I'm Ms. Jolene, I'll be your teacher. Do you want to head inside?" She asked.
Robbie turned around, giving me a hug and a kiss.
"I love you, have fun. See you at 2" I said, grabbing his cheeks.
"I love you too." He said before running into the classroom.
I stood outside, trying my best to look inside and see him.
"Nervous?" A voice came out of nowhere.
I looked up to a man, probably in his 30's.
"A little." I replied.

I arrived to my office building and swiped my card, entering the cubicle hell. I sat my coffee down and stretched before sitting at my desk.
"Oh (Y/N) you're here." Samantha said, leaning up against my desk.
"I am" I said back, turning on my desk top.
"Did you hear Phil might be asking Cindy out?" She asked, taking a sip of her coffee.
That was Samantha in a nutshell, she loved to create and talk about drama. She was the office 'drama queen'. She was nice though and helped me a lot when I first started, so I put up with it.

The school bell rang and I waited outside, trying to find my little boy.
He came rushing out of the classroom and over to me. His blue eyes were filled with joy as he began telling me all about his day.
"And Reid had dunk-a-Roos in his lunch today." He said.
"Wow, lucky Reid." I replied.
"Can we get them too, please?" He pleased.
"Maybe" I said, grinning.
