"Happy Birthday to you! Happy Birthday to you! Happy Birthday to Robert! Happy Birthday to you!" We all sang as I put the cake in front of Robbie and he blew out his candles.
"Do you want to cut the first piece?" I ask, taking the cake into the kitchen with Robbie following me.
"I think the neighbours are going to complain after that" he said chuckling.
It was Robbie's 17th birthday party with our family and friends.
"Thanks mom" he said as he took a finger full of frosting into his mouth.
"Ah-" I said, looking at him.
He looked at me, then gave me a kiss on the cheek.
"Thank you."

I was finish handing out the cake and Robbie started opening gifts.
"This one's from grandma and grandpa" he said as he tore open the bag.
My parents moved down to Derry shortly after I told them I was pregnant. I told them I didn't want to leave Derry because I loved the university and wanted to finish my degree. They agreed and my dad got a job as a car mechanic in town.
"Oh woah!" Robbie exclaimed, pulling out a skateboard. "Thanks!" He said, getting up to give them a hug.
The gifts continued and soon everyone was on their way home. The house got quiet and Robbie went to put his gifts in his room.
"Robbie, can you come here?" I shouted.
He came walking back and into view, he looked so much like his father, every time I see him I'm just reminded of Penny.
"I have one more gift for you." I said, ushering him over.
I handed him a small box, wrapped in red wrapping paper.
He tore open the wrapping paper and opened the lid and his face lit up.
He grabbed the keys out of the box and looked at me, "what?"
"We are going to pick it up tomorrow." I grinned.
"Oh my god really?" He said excitedly.
He gave me a big hug, picking me up.
I laughed, "you're welcome."
"Thank you!" He said, in shock.
