I sit in the attic with Vinny. I stare off into space and can't help but think of the kiss ... I mean, I'm a fucking outsider, and in comes Habit, the bad guy from a web series who came to life. And now he's real and he's talking to me and kissing me. And now this ... I don't know what to think.
"Vinny, why me? Why does he want me?" I ask.
"I don't know. But I've got to say, I'm glad to have met you."
I smile. "Thanks. I'm glad to have met you too."
"Maybe we could be friends?"
But all of your friends die.
Except Evan.
"Sure. I - I don't have very many friends anymore."
"Me neither," he says, and chuckles a little.
"You guys have a dark, twisted sense of humor."
"I guess you have to, you have to stay sane somehow." He shrugs. "I wish it wasn't this way. I wish they weren't dead. Or maybe they were and we were so Habit couldn't fuck with us."
"But we've got to stay strong," I mumble. "We've got little choice."
"But how?"
"If I knew that, well, I'd tell you."
Vinny slumps down on a sleeping bag he brought up here and sighs. He looks like he's about to cry or something. I look away to give some semblance of privacy. After a short period of time, he stops and sighs once again. This time, though, it's shaky as hell. I look over at him as he wipes his glasses off.
"You gonna be okay?" I ask.
"No," he admits.
"What's wrong?"
"I know why you are here."
"Yeah, I'm basically like a living dildo to a demon."
Vinny laughs at that. Actually laughs.
"No, I mean .... you have an actual purpose."
"What kind?"
"The kind where you are the only thing that can kill Slenderman."
