EXTENDED SUMMARY Being a 13 year old for Miles Harper was living hell. The number clawed at him ever since he was born on that gloomy Friday in the Derry hospital. He had strung out a timeline across his room walls in scribbled pencil lead, every tragic event happening on the same date. 13. Miles' parents had called it an unhealthy obsession and the local therapist suggested yellow plastic bottles of sugar pills from Mr. Keene's Pharmacy as a way to help cope. But the placebos weren't helping and neither was the talk around the Maine town, and it seemed to the Harper boy that only Eddie Kaspbrak understood. The pair talked every Tuesday and Thursday when they completed their bi-weekly pick up, sitting on the curb and counting red and blue cars blurring by. In those short hours two days a week, Miles felt like things could be normal for him. But then on the 13th of October, the largest storm Derry had ever seen brewed over its pavement and storefront awnings, and thus began the awakening of IT.
