I woke up in a white room in a white bed. Where was I? As I start to observe my surroundings, I realize I'm at the hospital. But why?
Madison walks into the room and her eyes go wide. She runs and hugs me, "Thank God," I hug her back. Why is she here? Isn't she another waitress at the diner?
"Are you okay? Does anything hurt?" She asks. Why is she taking such an interest in me? She must feel bad because no one else is here for me.
"I-I'm fine. Thank y-you," I say. The doctor walks in and smiles. "It's nice to see you again, Caly. Are you feeling alright?" He asks. When did I meet him?
"I'm feeling good. What happened to me?" I answer shortly. I'm so confused. "Can I ask, w-when did I meet you before?"
Dr. Prado spoke up, "Your vitals were so low when you passed out. You've lost so much weight from not eating, which triggered you passing out." Madison and the doctor looked confused.
"and I'm Dr. Prado? You met me when Madison came to the hospital a few months back?" When did Madison come to the hospital?"I-I'm sorry, I don't remember," I said.
The doctor frowned and then his eyes widened. He asked Madison if he could see her in the hallway for a second. They left me alone in the white room.
When Dr. Prado was talking, Madison expression changed. I saw a tear slip from her eyes. I'm so confused.
They walked back into the room and Madison sat down next to me and Dr. Prado stood. "Caly, What is the last memory that you have?" Dr. Prado asked.
I thought about it, "Well, I h-had just gotten back from school and I- was eating fruit loops." Madison looked disappointed. Was it something I said?
Dr. Prado started to talk again, "I'm so sorry, Caly, but you passed out because you stopped eating. You hit your head pretty hard and it appears that some of your memory is lost."
What? "What y-year is it? It's 2017, right?" I'm freaking out. How could I just forget everything that happened?
"No, Caly, it's 2018," Madison answered. My eyes are filled with tears.
"How m-much of my memory is gone?" I asked.
"About a year. We have to take a scan of your brain to see the severity of the hit," Dr. Prado says. Was this year a good one?
Nurses lead me to where I need to get scanned. I lay under the big machine and wait. After the scan is done, I go back to my room where Dr. Prado is waiting.
"Caly! Good news! The scan came back really good and... you are going to get all of your memories back! It's going to take time, but at least they are coming back!" Dr. Prado explained. I smiled.
"That's amazing! Is there any way to speed it up?" Madison asked.
"No, but if something traumatic happens then it will signal the brain and you may start to remember things." I nodded. I'm so glad I'm getting my memories back.
"Thank you, Dr. Prado," I say. He nods and walks out of the room.
"So, w-we're good friends I see?" I ask Madison. She laughs.
"The best of friends." Wow, I never thought I would have a best friend.
"What else is different in my life?" I ask. I need to know. If I have a best friend, what else is different?
"A lot. I can't tell you everything. We'll just have to wait until you get your memory back," She says. I nod my head and the room becomes quiet.
A ring fills the quiet room. Madison pulls out her phone and her eyes widen. She answers the phone call and says, "she's fine." I wonder who she's talking to and why that person cares about how I am.
"There's one small detail," Madison says, "She lost all her memories from this past year." The person on the other end screamed so loud that I could hear them.
"Chill," Madison said to calm him down, "She's going to get them back in a week or so." After a couple more minutes she hangs the phone up.
"Who was that?" I ask.
"No one you need to know about yet," Madison says as she sits down. I have a feeling a lot has changed since last year.
I get released from the hospital and I go back to Madison's house. It's huge. When we walk in, a boy is sitting on the couch watching tv.
"Caly, this is Niall, my boyfriend." Madison's boyfriend was hot.
"H-Hi," I say trying not to sound shy.
"Caly, what-"
"Niall, a word please?" Madison says and brings him into the other room. I know they are talking about my memories. I bet I'm supposed to know who that is. Maybe I'm even best friends with him. I guess I'll know in a week.
They come out of the room and Niall introduces himself. He says I don't have to be shy around him. I never am.
I sit down and watch TV with him. He seems like an amazing guy. Madison said I could sleepover here so she could look after me tonight. I thanked her and went off to bed. It's been a long day for me.
I put on some different clothes Madison has given me and laid in bed. I totally forgot that I had my phone in my back pocket the whole time. I download a game and start playing. It will make time pass and help me forget about everything that just happened for a while. Hopefully, I'll get my memories back sooner than later because I don't know who I am right now. And that can be scary.
I finally turn the game off and the lights. I fall asleep in the comfortable bed. As I sleep, my dreams are filled with a boy. He has... curly hair?
