4: eye contact please

"Rudra!"

"Wake up."

"Rudy boy."

"Casanova."

"Splash!"

"What happened? Where I am? Is this the parallel universe?"

Everybody laughed. Have I ever said that Rudra is the most dramatic person in this world? He just saw Anika in the hall and had dizziness, falling on the sleek red carpet. We were trying to wake him up from the past ten minutes when Anika splashed water on him. Typical.

"Di, you are alive?" Rudra asked staring at her dumbfounded. She gave him a smug smile.

"I am right in front of you, ain't I? All lively and jaunty."

"Yeah, I mean," Rudra blushed embarrassingly. "I was surprised. You went as a wind and then came as a.." he searched for words, "backward wind."

"Real mature Rudra." Om smacked him on his nose and embraced Anika, "I missed you."

"I didn't." She smiled. "I knew you were right in my heart Om."

"You have become so cheesy Anika Di." Rudra complained. "You have did a whole 360° turn of your persona."

"I know right. Shivaay loves me for that." Anika winked at me and I stared at her gaping. Is she serious. I mean, is she even hearing what she is saying? Glancing at my dazed figure, she smirked. "Cat got your tongue?"

"No. . .I mean. . .you! Ugh. I don't love you. . .okay? Get that in your stupid excuse of a brain."

"Keep telling yourself that." She smirked even more. The nerve of her.

I glared at her. She smiled.

Someone coughed. "Um, are we missing something?" Rudra wiggled his eyebrows. "Are you two a thing already? I thought it would take some time since you were angry but I am seeing that you two are already cozy and love Bhaiya? Changing and all ha?"

If I were a cartoon character, the smoke would have been coming out of my ears. "Rudra if you don't stop I will throttle you alive."

"Denial is not good Shivaay." Om smiled.

I ran towards Om and smacked him. He yelped.

"Om, Rudra, I gotta take this call okay?" Anika smiled at them. "Bye Shivaay."

The question hovered over my mind as I stared at the blank wall. What has happened to Anika?

As we were about to bid our bye to the almost bride and groom, Yash stopped us. "A game of Dumb Charades won't hurt right?"

"Actually," I begin. "I have to go. It's urgent. There are some files. . ."

"Yash don't listen to him." Shari glared at me pushing me towards the hall back. "He is so coming."

I breathed out as I saw a smile on Anika. It was as if she was trying to mend our thing that was there. But I know, it won't be the same. She betrayed me, she left me. I am utterly confused at her behaviour. If she is doing so much to talk to me then why that letter? Then why tell me that she. . .that she loves somebody else!

Somebody who has already managed to make his way in her heart long back. Then why? Why is she giving me mixed signals. Is she playing some sick game? I felt suffocated at the mere thought. The thought of being used again wasn't enthralling to say the least. It was worse.

"My two best friends are the captains. Chose your soccer team!"

I stared at my phone, getting bored. The air conditioner's slow working, adding more to the misery. "Shivaay, I announced you and Anika as the captain. I hope your ears are working fine."

"Absolutely." I muttered thinking about the fact that exactly when Sharvi and I become best friends.

Feeling a little famished, I rushed to the kitchen, holding up a cookie, munching it. I haven't had anything all day long. The sweet scent of vanilla captured me as I heard her voice.

"Ready to lose?" She asked snatching the cookie from me, gobbling it up.

"In your dreams." I deadpanned.

"Ah!" She smiled sweetly at me. "It has already happened a number of times there."

"Don't look so casual about the whole ordeal Anika." I said seriously trying to decipher her moves. Her smile faltered a little, but once again smugness replaced it.

"About what?" She did not bothered seeing at me, happily munching on the delicacy.

"Look at me and answer. Don't you know what I am asking?"

She looked straight, frustrating me even more. "I don't know what you are talking about."

"Oh, you know perfectly what I am asking about." She still didn't make the eye contact, making me piss.

"Look here." I demanded, a bossy tone overtaking it.

I grabbed her shoulders pinning her to the kitchen wall placing my hands beside her head. "Look at me when you answer." I said, my voice dropping a few notches low as she breathed deeply staring at me with those doe shaped eyes. They still held the same innocence that attracted me to her. Her hair were fuzzy, her long fingers moving slightly in anticipation. We both stared, trying to find answers in each other's eyes.

"Why are you acting like nothing happened between us?" I said, trying desperately to hide the pain in my voice.

"We were just friends Shivaay." She said ducking her head low, escaping my eyes. I moved her chin back levelling my gaze back.

"Friend don't go on a date Anika." I said moving closer getting the drift of vanilla once again, grazing my thumb at over her chin.

"Shivaay." She whispered. "Let me go."

"What if I will not?" I moved my head closer to her, hoping she could not hear the thumping of my heart.

"Then I would leave myself."

"Just like you did." I said, my nose touching hers. "Just like you did." I repeated to myself before leaving my grasp on her as I made my way to the hall.
