You and I are taking a trip back home. Well, to another hospital. You see you were so sick, they couldn't risk you going there to start with even though it was the best hospital for a brain injury so a specialist doctor came from Boston to you here in Washington. Come to think of it we may not have known they had found you if that happened. They are prepping you for the 7 or 8 hour journey home.
They soon had you prepped and ready to go. My little brother is finally going home. It was a long trip back. The doctor and I were in the back with you. The EMT is driving. If anything goes wrong there is someone her to help. Mom went back yesterday with our belongings but I have a small bag with me that I needed last night. It's not very comfortable in the back. I shift my weight to get comfortable, the Doctor looks at me.
"I am OK. Just can't get comfortable".
We finally get there around three. You have been out if it for the whole trip. You had an oxygen mask in case and were hooked up to a heart monitor to keep an eye on your heart as you were sedated. There have not been any bleeps. I go for coffee while you get settled for your stay. I will see you later bro.
When mom and I come back in to see you a couple of hours once they got you settled here, you were asleep. I guess not much to do but really your body is still healing. We sat either side of your bed, watching you lightly snoring away, which is strange because you snore loudly normally and talk in your sleep. This is quiet compared to you normally. The trip back home had taken a toll on you and they did sedate you for the trip and that would tire anyone out. So you were tired, we have been here for an hour with you still sleeping. Mom had gone to get some coffee and I was starting to doze off.
"Jon" I felt something on my arm as I sat in chair next to you. I opened my eyes to you grabbing at my arm to get my attention "Jon".
"Hey, how are you feeling?".
"Tired and hurting".
"Want anything for the pain. I can go and get a nurse". You shook your head.
"Just need sleep". You closed your eyes again. I smile.
Later mom comes with other visitors. There are a lot of people here now cos Joe and Donnie came to visit also. Danny was back at home in Florida now that he had his casts off both leg and arm. Joe doesn't have a cast either. Donnie is now on crutches as he has a cast on the one leg where he had an op. I still need the brace. As I was saying there were a lot of people here as your wife and kids are here too. You were half awake when both boys ran over to hug you. You were looking like you are suffocating with a worried look as they were calling you, dad. Mom came over to settle you like she always had done since you were little J. Your wife also came over and gave you a peck on the cheek cos of the look you were giving everyone.
"I am glad you are back at home. The boys have been asking about you, when can we see dad?" said Evelyn "Now you are nearer we will come back when there are less people so you don't feel overwhelm, babe".
"Mom, who are these people?" she started to rub your chest "I don't know these people. Why are they calling me dad and babe".
"Don't worry Evelyn. It will be alright once he remembers" I replied in the background with your wife. She nodded sadly looking at the boys who were confused.
"I am so confused" you replied. You were getting anxious "I got to get ready for band practice" We all look at you with a worried look on our faces "Why can't I move?. What's on my leg? I can't be late again".
"Eh J".
"Why is everyone looking at me funny like I have grown two heads?".
"That was years ago. We are a big selling boyband. Well we are doing it the second time around".
"What do you mean we are a big selling boyband? We only started out last year".
"Get Youtube up and running on your iPad Joe". We started finding videos and clips of us, even your Facebook live posts. You were getting more and more anxious and confused.
"Mom I am so confused. Please help me. I am confused. I am scared". On the iPad, were you on a golf cart in one of the arenas we were at last tour looking for me and racing around with the crew. You looked at yourself on the screen not really registering it was you. Cos J you think you're a teenager 😩 . A nurse came in with Joe.
