Jacqueline hated the way Douglas was treating Elaine. He was treating her so good and Jacqueline was finding herself unable to find the smallest flaw.
Was that a good thing?
She was trying very hard but she wasn't invited to their dates anymore, she couldn't watch him closely now that Elaine totally trusted him.
She knew something was off the last month, but she was finding herself unable to tell Tim or even Don that Douglas was a drug dealer.
She knew it was wrong, she knew she had to tell someone. She had to trust her best friend and her boyfriend.
But yet, she wasn't doing anything.
"Don, what are you doing?" Jacqueline asked her boyfriend who was at the kitchen.
"I'm making breakfast." he said and smiled at his girlfriend.
"Are you sure you won't burn the whole house down?" Jacqueline laughed, although she knew Don was a very good cooker.
"I'll try not to." he laughed it off.
They were so happy together, and Jacqueline could ruin that if she decided it was time to tell Don the truth, the truth about their best friend, why she was always leaving and what is wrong with this guy, Douglas Stevens.
"Don," Jacqueline said now serious "I have to tell you something."
"What is it Jacque?" he said and looked at her, a look full of worry.
"Elaine, is not very good lately. Every day after school Douglas comes and picks her up, or she goes to his house on her own. Every day the same thing." she started.
"What do you mean? Is there something wrong with the dude?"
"Yes, there is something wrong." Jacqueline looked down at her plate. It was still empty and was waiting to be filled with whatever delicious thing Don was making.
Don was looking at her. He was waiting for an answer.
"Douglas is a drug dealer." she said and exhaled a breath she was keeping in the whole time.
"He is a drug dealer." Don repeated, mostly to himself, "Tim was right, the guy really is dangerous."
"We can't tell Tim yet."
"What? Of course we will tell Tim." Don said and continued with his cooking.
He was making pancakes, the one that was in the pan all this time was burned by now.
"We can't," Jacqueline tried to convince him "don't you see? He is getting away from us! We have to find a right moment. When he will be alone, because he is always with Mark. No one else can know."
"I guess you're right." Don sighed. He wasn't going to tell his best friend this big secret, although he knew it was the right thing to do.
He had to wait for the right moment, were Tim would be in a good state of mind to listen.
They had to wait.
Don was now making his pancakes and Jacqueline was silently eating one, filled with chocolate. No one was talking, but Don's mind was being tortured by an another question.
Other questions seemed way easier now.
"Is Elaine doing drugs?" he spitted out after moments of silence.
Jacqueline looked up at him, "I know something's off this past month, but I'm not 100% sure."
"I think she is." she finally said.
"How do you know?"
"I know nothing about drugs, okay?" she said "But one day, Elaine was waiting for Douglas to come and pick her up, when I found her."
Flashback (all the text in cursive)
"El, where are you going?" Jacqueline asked her best friend.
"Douglas is coming to pick me up." she said and tried to look away.
"Do you want to come to my house tomorrow after school?" Jacqueline fake-smiled worried about her best friend.
"I would love to." Elaine said "But I can't. I'm sorry."
"What do you mean? You can go to Douglas some other time. I barely see you." she pleaded.
"I have to go to Douglas okay? I need to keep going because I want what he has. I can't have it on my own. Please Jacque I need you to trust me on this. I need you to let me go."
A car stopped in front of them and the window slowly opened. "Come in luv." Douglas said "Hello, Jacqueline. How are you?"
"What is it, that he has?" Jacqueline whispered to Elaine but she ignored her and got in the car.
"Well, goodbye lady." Douglas said again trying to catch Jacqueline's attention.
"Bye." she said and the car left.
"Jacqueline, I think we have a problem." Don said and Jacqueline nodded in agreement.
~
Elaine and Douglas were still in Douglas' house.
Elaine knew this was a toxic relationship and she was now regretting a lot of things, but she couldn't leave now.
She was still in love with Douglas and she couldn't leave his side. She was willing to do anything to please him, even drugs.
Elaine knew that was she was doing the past month was wrong, but now it was too late for regrets. She couldn't go a day without going to his house. They were doing drugs and they were drinking.
She couldn't stop, her organism was asking for it, like it was calling for her to do it.
And what could she do? She had to obey.
Hello luvs!
I'm so sorry I was out for so many days. I know I said I would only be gone for four days, but when I returned, I couldn't write a single word.
I had a writers block for the past 10 days, every day I was getting my laptop and I opened wattpad and I clicked on this very chapter -that was empty- and I was just staring at it, it was awful.
The next two chapters are the BOOM BOOM CHAPTERS (actually 21 is but whatever).
I will update as soon as possible and I wish this writers block won't continue for long.
Anyways, you can always message me for anything you want or just to say hi!
And until my next chapter have a great day & a wonderful life!
(also go check my new story, it is still in a COMING SOON kind of stage but it will be updated very very soon so if you like it put it in your library to be notified when I will update)
