Monday, everyone had to go back to school. Jacqueline didn't really want to go. But her senior year was almost over and she was looking forward to end school forever.
She got up from her bed and went to the bathroom, brushed her teeth and hair and then went back to her room to pick up some clothes.
When she chose the perfect outfit for the day, she grabbed her backpack and walked to Nathan's room to check on him.
She opened the door slowly, to not make any noices and saw him sleeping peacefully. She closed the door again and got out of the house, as her parents were already gone.
As soon as she arrived at school she saw Don sitting in one of the benches doing something on his phone.
"Good morning Don!" Jacqueline greeted.
"Morning Jacqy!" he stopped doing whatever he was doing on his phone and shoved it in his back pack "What's up?"
"Well, Nathan was really excited to hear about Ibiza. He loved it!" she smiled.
"I knew he would. You should take him somewhere someday."
"Well, I tried! but my parents are like super worried and they won't let him go anywhere that far from our house." Jacque sighed.
Just when Jacqueline finished that sentence, Elaine came and sat next to Don on the bench, without saying anything.
"Elaine?" Jacqueline asked "How are you today?"
"Hi, guys." she mattered.
"What's wrong?" Don asked.
"I just- Douglas is not answering any of my calls. And I called him yesterday. A lot of times. He isn't picking up. And Jacque may be right I'm acting like a-"
"Don't say it." Don said in a strict tone. "And come on you're not like this! Get over it, he'll see it and call you back, for sure! I promise you."
"Thank you, Don." she answered "It means a lot."
"Anytime." he answered.
The bell rang and everyone started going to their classes.
Don and Jacqueline walked to their first class, history.
They sat on a desk in the back of the class and opened their books.
The lesson started, and Jacqueline was already bored.
As Jacqueline was daydreaming and paying zero attention to the teacher talking this whole time, a small piece of paper fell in front of her.
She took it carefully and started unfolding it.
Prom? I'll text you.
Was all it said. Jacqueline had totally forgotten about the prom.
She looked around, but no one was looking at her and she wondered who sent that.
"What's that?" Don asked her.
"Someone asked me to prom." Jacqueline explained "I don't know who, though."
Don seemed dissapointed. "Oh, that's great, Jacqueline." he faked smiled.
"Didn't you-" she started saying but the bell interrupted her.
Don got up and walked out of the classroom not waiting for Jacqueline.

Jacqueline was walking home from school.
She wasn't leaving in a crowded neighbourhood, and the roads were almost empty in a weekday like that one.
Jacqueline kept thinking about the guy that asked her out, and then Don's reaction.
