...
"So this is it?" Rose stated blankly, watching Isaac pack up the last of his belongings. "I can't believe you're just leaving. It's so sudden." Rose continued, still trying to understand.
When Isaac told her, she laughed. But when he kept his stone cold expression, and his eyes couldn't look back at her, that's when she knew he wasn't joking. He was leaving Beacon Hills, and this was their goodbye. It was unexpected and abrupt. Rose wasn't sure where it was coming from. She couldn't even wrap her head around the idea of living a life without Isaac.
"It's not because of you, or anything that you did."
"I know that."
"It's just what's best for me right now."
"I understand."
"I'll be back."
"Don't lie."
Isaac looked up from Rose after zipping up his suitcase. He couldn't believe that she thought that he was lying. It pained him so much to leave her, but to think that she believed he wouldn't be back practically tore his heart into two.
Isaac moved so he was now kneeling in front of Rose and grabbed both of her hands.
"You really believe that?" He asked, hurt evident in his voice. "You think that I won't be back?"
She could barely look him in the eye. It hurt too much.
"Don't say things that you don't mean."
Isaac held her hand tighter and told her sternly, "I'll be back."
Rose gulped, suppressing the lump in her throat that was tempting her tears to fall.
"I know."
Isaac gave her a smile, brushing the hair out of her face as they both looked at each other.
Rose still couldn't believe that this was happening. She had lost two people in her life, and now she was losing a third. The timing couldn't have been worse. She wasn't ready to say goodbyes, especially after everything that had happened. She couldn't say another one.
He held both of her hands in his own, looking down at her delicate fingers. He tried his best not to cry in front of Rose as well. He thought he would only make it worse if he began to cry. He swallowed away the tears, blinking a few times before looking up at her.
"I love you, Rose Hale." Isaac told her, "I will always love you. You have, in more ways than one, changed my life."
Rose couldn't hold in it any longer. She wanted to be mad. She wanted to be angry at Isaac for leaving her. After everything that had happened, he was flying off to Paris with Argent, leaving Rose behind. She wanted to scream at him. She wanted a fight.
But she couldn't be mad. She couldn't fight. Especially when this was her last moment with him.
Her tears were now falling freely down her cheeks. The pain of watching him leave her was indescribable. It was like a void in her chest, knowing that he was going to be gone for who knows how long.
"And I will always love you, Isaac Lahey."
Isaac let out a light laugh, thinking of all the memories of Rose and him when they first met. He knew that when he first laid eyes on Rose Hale, it was going to lead to trouble. And though their rocky start began to prove it to be right, it ended up being nothing but incorrect. It had proven to be the best thing to ever happen to Isaac.
"I remember when I first met you," Isaac began telling her, "I thought to myself, this girl is going to be a pain in the ass. I was right."
Rose managed to let out a laugh.
"I mean you were a huge pain in my ass, Rose Hale. Like the biggest pain in the ass, always giving me a hard time-"
"Alright," Rose pushed him lightly with a small smile on her face, "I get it."
"But you ended up being the best thing to happen to me." Isaac told her, his tone now serious. "You made me the person I am today and helped bring out the better part of me. And I will forever be grateful for you Rose Hale."
He slowly reached up to wipe the tears from her face and gave her a soft smile.
"And I will see you again, Rose Hale."
He kissed the top of her forehead, before holding her tightly in his arms,
"Do you promise?"
"I promise."
...
