NOAH'S POV

I remain silent on the stone steps as I watch as Liam chain Alaina up to the large pipe in the corner of the cellar. She's still fast asleep and the moon hasn't risen yet. Jaxon and Gabby are out in the garage, chaining Gabby up to the post to make sure she doesn't get out when she shifts.

Liam continuously throws me glances as I watch him, and when he finally gets tired of me staring, his head snaps towards me. "What is wrong with you?"

"What?" My brows furrow at his question.

"You're brooding." He tells me, causing me to roll my eyes.

"I'm always brooding."

"Are you worried about your little wolf?" He asks, nodding towards Alaina.

"She's not my wolf, and no, I'm not worried," I grumble, looking away from him as he smirks.

"Even though she might die?" His brow raises at me as he sits back on his heels. My eyes flicker back over to him to find him staring at me.

"She's Gabby and Ax's friend. Not mine."

"Mm," he nods slowly as he goes back to Alaina, adjusting her head so that she won't wake up with a sore neck. "So... When you saw Mick 'ripping her throat out', as you put it, all you wanted to do was act like you didn't see anything?" He looks back over at me.

My brows furrow, "No. I wouldn't have left her like that. He would've killed her."

"Then, why did you save her if you don't like her?"

"I have never once said that I don't like her," I point at him. "I just said I don't understand what everyone finds so goddamn special about her. I don't get it. Like, at all. As soon as she showed up, both of those idiots up there fell in love with her. And so did you! I can feel your protectiveness radiating off of you. Don't act like t-"

"She's a kid, you idiot." He barks at me, but like always, it doesn't faze me. "She can't be but seventeen and she's all alone. Like Gabriella said, her family is dead and all she has is her aunt, who would probably flip out if she found out her niece was a werewolf." My brows furrow at his words and I glance over at Alaina, find her cheeks red again.

"We're all she has now. The only people she can trust. So, like it or not, Noah, you need to be there for her. You have to be someone for her. A friend, an older brother, a fucking friend-with-benefits, I don't give a damn, as long as you help her." My head snaps up towards him and my eyes widen.

"Wh-"

"She's a part of our pack now. You saved her, she's your responsibility just as much as she is mine, Gabriella's, and Jaxon's. We're taking her in just like I took you in. Remember that?" His brow raises and I grit my teeth.

I look back over at Alaina when I hear her mumble something. My eyes widen when her eyes begin fluttering open and I quickly stand up. "Whatever. She's your responsibility tonight."

I start walking upstairs but my heart drops at what Alaina whispers next.

"Noah..?"

ALAINA'S POV

I slowly lift my head up as my vision continues to blur. "It stinks," I mumble as my head tilts back and I try to focus on the single light bulb hanging from the rusted ceiling. "It stinks real bad."

"I know. I really got to do something about the smell."

My brows furrow at the unfamiliar voice and when I go to rub my eyes, I realize my hands are bounded to something. My vision finally begins to come back to me and I stare up at a tall brunette.
