ALAINA'S POV
"Noah."
"Noah."
"Noah."
"Noah."
"Jesus Christ, what?!" Noah finally breaks and I stare at him victoriously. We're still in the jeep, driving around in the woods, and he still has not told me where the hell we're going.
"Where the hell are you taking me?!" I shout back at him with wide eyes and his instantly turn gold.
"Would you just shut up and enjoy the ride?!"
"Quit acting like a soccer mom and just tell me already, for fuck sakes!" I groan as I throw my head into my hands. When the car comes to an abrupt stop, my head flies back up and I immediately look over at Noah.
He begins unbuckling his seat belt and my eyes widen. I look out the window once I realize that we've actually reached our destination. My eyes zone in on the small cottage we're parked outside of, surrounded by nothing but tall trees and thick grass.
"Uh..." I mumble as I follow Noah out of the car. "Where are we?" My eyes flicker over to him as I sling my backpack over my shoulder. He doesn't answer me as he walks towards the front door that is nearly hidden over the falling roof above the patio.
"Noah!"
He shoves his keys into the lock as I run up behind him. He opens the door slowly and holds it open for me as I look up at him with wide eyes. "Noah, whose house is this?" I ask.
He motions for me to go inside without answering my question, and for some reason, I do as he asks. My eyes first meet a very dirty kitchen and I feel my lip curl up. "Noah," I mumble as I look around, the house becoming dirtier as I look at every single object.
Noah walks in front of me, going in further into the house, and as I debate staying here, the nerves in my stomach tell me to do otherwise. I follow him down a narrow hallway with dry mud smeared on the walls, broken picture frames hanging, and holes that had been punched straight through.
He finally stops at the last door and forces it open, something on the other side keeping him out. He grunts when it pushes at it a second time and it swings open. I watch with wide eyes as he stumbles into the room, looking over everything as I stand shocked in the doorway.
The room is a complete mess, just like the rest of the house. There's broken bed in the corner of the room, the wooden bedframe had been smashed and the legs had been broken. Next to the bed is a large bookshelf, that only contains half the books it normally had; the rest piled messily on the floor.
The rest of the room was completely chaotic: parts of the floorboard are smashed and/or covered in dirt, the dresser on the right side of the room has a broken mirror and pulled out drawers.
I bite down on my bottom lip as I stare at his back, seeing that he's breathing more heavily than normal. "Noah," I whisper and his head snaps towards me, and I meet his golden eyes. His chest falls and rises as he gazes at me, brows slowly furrowing.
He quickly looks away from me and around the messy room. "Uh..." He mutters to himself as his eyes roam over everything.
Suddenly, he walks over to the broken bookshelf and kneels down to begin grabbing some of the books. He opens one, stares at the words inside, furrows his brows, closes the book, and throws it down on the ground. He repeats this step for a couple of minutes, not stopping his movements as I make my way towards him.
I crouch down beside him and he doesn't even notice me. When I go to pick up one of the books in the pile he hasn't touched, his head snaps towards me and I look up instantly to see his wide eyes. "What are you doing?!" He snaps at me and my brows raise in surprise.
