ALAINA'S POV
"Are you sure you're okay?" Gabby asks as we walk back into school and to her locker. "You look a bit shaken up."
"No, I'm fine," I tell her with a small smile. "Thank you for buying me lunch, I'll pay you back."
"Nonsense." She waves me off and we arrive at her locker. As she spins the dial, I glance down the hallway for any sight of Ax, since this is the time when he normally appears out of nowhere.
But someone else catches my eye.
My brows raise slightly when I see the tan skinned girl from Friday night strolling down the hallway with a couple of textbooks pressed against her chest. The sight of her brings back the purple flames and the smell of burning flesh.
The burn in veins increase and the girl's eyes flicker over to me, widening when she finds me staring at her. My lips part when I go to say something, but yelling at her from all the way down the hallway isn't the best way to go.
I quickly turn to Gabby, who is digging through her locker in order to find something, and I place my hand on her shoulder. "I'll be right back," I declare and she mumbles something that I don't hear because I've already taken off down the hallway after her.
The girl, Carson, I believe her name was, continues down the hall as if she never even saw me. But by the fast pace she's walking, I know that she's trying her hardest to get away from me without making a scene.
When she takes a hard right down another corridor, I follow straight after her, but when I turn the corner, no one is there. It's an empty hallway.
My eyes widen immediately and I quickly turn around to see if any of the other students roaming down the hallway have disappeared as well. But they're all there.
Where did she go?
My silent thought is answered when a hand wraps around my wrist and I'm tugged backwards into an empty classroom. Stumbling, I try my hardest to turn back around the same moment she closes the door.
"You..." I point at her and her brows raise.
"Me..?" The fire spreading through my veins grows when she speaks, but I keep a straight face.
"What the hell are you? Who the hell are you?" I rephrase, shaking my head back and forth.
She licks her lips slowly before clicking her tongue and patting her thighs. "Okay, first introductions probably is the right way to go," she states before sticking out her hand, "I'm Carson. And...I'm a witch."
My eyes widen and my entire body freezes, but the pain still flows through my veins. "A witch?" I ask, somewhat surprised, but somewhat not. "You've got to be kidding me," I mutter.
"Are you going to shake my hand or not?" She asks, sighing softly as she continues to hold her hand out for me. I do as she says and shake it slowly before retracting my hand. "I thought you'd start shouting and freaking out," she comments.
"I've already had my fit of fears," I tell her softly as my brows knit together.
"Friday night..." I mumble and her head tilts to the side. "You saved my life," I state.
"Yes, I did." She nods in agreement as she goes over and sits down in one of the desks. "And I'm guessing...the fire was you?"
I inhale a sharp breath as my eyes move towards the door. I could just run...
"Yes. The fire was me."
"And those three kids? The dead kids?"
I turn around to see her gazing at me with a curious look in her brown eyes, "Yeah...that was...that was me."
