ALAINA'S POV
I lay my head on my pillow as I stare at my open door, waiting for Mommy to come in here to tell me goodnight. Minutes pass and I look over at my pink alarm clock on the nightstand, reading the time as nine-forty-four.
My bottom lip puckers out impatiently and I roll over onto my back. "Mommy!" I call out as I kick my feet.
A moment later I hear footsteps coming down the hallway and I turn to see her standing in the doorway with a tray holding a small mug. "Yes, little moon?" Her brow arches and I smile. "You called?"
I lean up instantly as she walks into my room and sets the tray down on my nightstand, now holding the mug in her hands. She gives it to me cautiously so that I don't spill it before running her fingers through my long hair.
"Thank you, Mommy," I tell her and take a sip, causing to smile at me. She continues to run her fingers through my hair and she begins humming a song.
I recognize the song as 'Star Light, Star Bright', my favorite song to ever exist. She sings this song to me every night, and I will never get tired of it.
I finish my milk and place it back on the tray, and she helps me lay back down under the blanket as she continues humming. "Can you sing the words?" I ask her as she tucks me in.
A warm smile graces her lips, "Well, of course. Anything for my girl."
I grin widely at her as she begins singing to me, her voice sweet and calm, sending me off to sleep although I'd prefer to listen to her sing forever.
When awake, I'm alone in my bedroom. I look towards my open windows to see no sunlight shining through. My brows draw together and I lean up, rubbing the sleep from my eyes.
What time is it?
I look around my room and my eyes fall on the pink alarm clock on my bed reading eight-twenty-two. Have I slept through the whole day?
I climb down from my bed and my way into the hallway in search for Mommy or Daddy. "Mommy!" I call as I rub at my eyes again. "Mommy! Where are you?" I call out again as I peek into their bedroom, but find it empty.
My bottom lip puckers into a pout and I stomp down the rest of the hallway to the last room upstairs, Daddy's office. I slide open the door to find them both. I'm about to ask why I'm being ignored, but then my eyes roam around the room.
They changed it. The walls are pink instead of brown and there are butterfly stickers hanging up on the walls. There's a wooden changing table and a rocking chair, and a basket of stuffed animals.
My brows furrow as I turn my attention back to them when I hear a familiar voice singing a song. Mommy turns slightly and my eyes widen when I see her holding a small baby, and she's humming.
She's humming my bedtime song.
My face falls as she smiles down at the baby and Daddy smiles too. Suddenly, his small shifts into something else and he looks over at me.
"Whose baby is that?" I point and Mommy looks over at me, and her smile remains.
"This is your baby sister, little moon," she informs me.
