NOAH'S POV

I'm an idiot.

Like, an actual idiot.

Why the hell did I just ask her to look through the bestiaries with me?! From the way she reacted and the way I heard her heart hammering in her chest, she must think that I asked her out on a date?!

Who the hell would want to look at fucking books for a date?! Maybe she doesn't think it's a date. She might have just got freaked out because we've never actually arranged a 'hang out' before. We've sort of just been kidnapping her mostly.

But, now we're supposed to get together after school. We didn't even say where! W..We could go to Liam's. Or the library at school, like she said earlier.

There is the chance that she got grounded for coming home so late on a school night. She really does need to get a phone so that she can text her aunt and stuff. Shit, she must have been worried about her. I shouldn't have pulled over earlier. If she got home before eleven, she might be in less trouble.

But, no. I just had to be fucking dramatic and pull the damn car over. Although, I did get a lot of information out of here that she definitely wouldn't have told me if we were under different circumstances.

What bothers me most about spending tonight with her is that she didn't tell me why she hurt herself the other night. And, when she did it bothers me too. I was in the room with her for half of the night, I didn't even fall asleep. Then Gabriella came in and told me to go to sleep, so I did. I'm guessing Gabriella stayed with her and she did it in the night when she was asleep.

The fact that she did it in my home pisses me off. Not because it's 'disrespectful' or anything, it's just that she was in so much pain that she had to hurt herself when she had four people in the same house as her that care a lot about her.

Three people! Not four. Three.

I grumble a bunch of cuss words as I pull into Liam's driveway. I grab the stack of bestiaries and quickly make my way inside, trying my hardest not to get any of the books wet. When the door slams behind me, I drop the books down on the kitchen counter and turn around to find Liam and Ax sitting at the dining table, playing cards as they stare at me.

"Hey," I say, my body frozen as I stare back.

"Hey!" Ax greets, a smile lighting up his face before his brows furrow. "You're soaking wet, dude."

"Yeah," I nod slowly as I pull off my wet jacket and walk over to the door next to the fridge, tossing it into the nearest laundry basket.

"Where did you go after school?" Ax asks as he and Liam continue on with whatever game they're playing. "Where did you take Alaina? You had Gabby really worried."

"You took Alaina somewhere?" Liam chuckles as I kick off my shoes. "I thought you hated her."

When I walk back into the kitchen, only in my boxers, Liam glances over at me before his eyes land on the bestiaries on the counter. With one look at them, I already know that he knows what they are.

He stands up quickly and walks over to them, picking one up and flipping through it. "Where did you get these?" He asks as I sit down at the table, running my fingers through my damp hair.

"I went to my grandmother's," I state slowly and Ax's eyes widen as he looks over at Liam.

Liam's already staring at me with the same expression as Ax. "You took Alaina with you?" He asks, brow raising.
