NOAH'S POV

"What the hell was that?"

"What the hell was what?" Ax raises a brow at me as we walk towards the library. I narrow my eyes at him and a small smirk raises to his lips.

"Why the hell did Gabby just tell me to stay away from Alaina?" I ask him, smacking his chest harshly and he fakes wounded.

"Because you like her!" He states matter-of-factly and I feel my eyes widen.

"What are you talking about, Jaxon?" I groan, knowing that he has millions of theories flying around in that thick head of his.

He swings open the door to the library and we both stroll in, him more dramatically than he should. "Alaina, you always say that you hate her-"

"I have never once said that I hate her," I defend myself honestly.

"Don't interrupt me if you want to hear my noble words." He points at me. I roll my eyes before he smirks and spins around, heading down a row of shelves. "I found Alaina first, that makes her mine and I plan on marrying her someday, even though she deeply disagrees. Then, somehow, my best friend swoops in and tries to steal her from me!"

"I am not stealing her from you, you idiot!" I groan, my head swinging back. "And she's not even yours to steal from. She's made it very clear how she feels about you. And saying that she's 'yours'."

"That's for now, brother." He winks at me, causing me to roll my eyes again. "Anyway, you claim you don't like her. I didn't doubt that during her first couple of days because you normally never show people how you feel; you always mask your emotions. Even with Liam, Gabbs, and I, we can't sense your emotions.

"But, ever since Alaina showed up, you've grown messy." He clenches his teeth as his brows draw together.

Insulted, my brows raise and my eyes widen. "I'm not... messy," I state.

"Noah, when you came home last night I could smell the capacity of your nerves running all over your body." He says oh so smartly. I grit my teeth as I stare at him and he just continues on. "Alaina had you all riled up. How?"

"She did not have me 'riled up'," I mumble as he begins pulling out books from the shelves.

"Yes, she did." He nods knowingly. "And from the way she looked this morning when I mentioned you, she was all riled up too. What happened between you two last night?"

"Nothing happened," I say, somewhat honestly. "We just went to the house and went through the bestiaries. Didn't find anything, so we came back and ended up getting rained on."

"Uh-huh." He murmurs, his tongue sticking out of the corner of his mouth as his eyes scan over the titles on the books. "Yeah, sure. The same way Gabby's fucking Liam."

"What?!" I deadpan.

"Exactly. They're both lies! So, tell me the truth. 'Cause the lies, right here," he waves at my entire being and my brows furrow, "yeah, it-uh-it isn't working for me." His lip pulls up into a smirk and I narrow my eyes at him.

"What happened with Alaina, Noah?" He asks, genuinely serious this time. His brown eyes seemingly calm as he stares at me with furrowed brows. "Did you kiss her?"

"No!" I hiss at him, just to be shushed by another student. I throw a glare at them once they realize who they've shushed and they quickly run off.

"Noah," Ax calls back my attention and grabs onto my shoulder. "It's okay if you like Alaina. You've never liked anyone before, so, yeah, I understand if you're all freaked out by it."
