NOAH'S POV

"She's gonna take the demon...out of her?" Gabby furrows her brows at me from across the dining table.

"It's called an extraction." Liam voices as he tosses one of the bestiaries down in front of her and both hers and Ax's heads snap towards it.

"Witches used to do it all the time when demons would posses children and adults in their villages. They'd perform it under the full moon so that they can draw magic from its strong source of power," he mumbles, scratching the back of my neck.

"But this is different." Eliza spits and I look around the room, finding her leaning against the sink and staring out the window.

"How is it different?" Gabby asks her. "How do you even know about any of this?"

Eliza finally looks back at us, her face colorless. "Because the children that were possessed by demons were human before they were possessed. Alaina wasn't human when this demon made her body its host."

"How do you—"

"Alaina's mother didn't give birth to her," she claims and my eyes widen. I remember her saying that to Alaina when Alaina had tried telling her the truth. "She didn't adopt her neither, or kidnap her."

"Then..?"

"She's not your daughter is she?!" Ax shrieks. "Pretending that your niece is your daughter is pretty weird!"

"No, she isn't my daughter!" Eliza shakes her head at him in annoyance and he simmers down.

"Then what is she?" I ask, my voice rough.

Her eyes flicker towards me and I see a glimmer of sadness in them. "I don't know. I just know that she wasn't just born from any woman. She was made."

"Made?!" Ax's voice cracks and I look over at him. "That's what sex is! I'm getting uncomfortable with this conversation!"

"She wasn't produced from a woman's uterus, Jaxon." Gabby smacks his arm. "That's what she tried to say. Goddamn, just shut up and listen, I beg of you."

He crosses his arms over his chest and scoots down in the chair, his face turning red. "Onto bigger problems," I state and Eliza and Liam look towards me.

"What all did this Carson tell you?" He asks, speaking her name in a venomous tone.

"She-She said something about 'taking the demon out of Alaina will restore the balance'," I glance down at the table as I shake my head curtly. "What the fuck does that mean? 'Restore the balance'?"

"When demons possess someone living it doesn't really...disrupt the balance of nature. It just disrupts that person." Liam informs me with and his brows knit together.

"That didn't answer my question," I claim a bit too angrily.

"Whatever Alaina is," Eliza starts and I see Gabby's jaw drop, "she's the disruption. She knocked things out of balance."

"How could that be possible?! This demon in Alaina isn't even troublesome! Demons normally try to get their host to kill everybody in sight, but Alaina hasn't killed anyone!" Gabby says confidentially towards her.

"Oh, yeah! Don't forget about Margo, Mick, and Karly." Ax voices smugly and I glare over at him.

"How can Carson even perform this spell?!" Eliza looks to me. "Since Alaina isn't human, the spell will be altered and Carson will need more than just the power of the moon to extract the demon."
