I step out of the elevator to the 5th floor, the dining hall. I'm starving. I woke up late and didn't eat until 2 o'clock. Doesn't sound like me, does it? I walk over to the fridge and grab things to make a sandwich out of. Turkey, tomatoes, cheese, real mayo, and then some bread from the pantry. I make the sandwich and them slice it into two pieces. I walk around the counter and sit down, feeling weak as ever.
As I start to take a bite of my handmade sandwich, the elevator doors open. Fear pegs my heart. Could it be Tony with another lecture? Natasha steps out of the elevator, looking around. Her eyes focus on me. She marches over and crosses her arms.
"Where the hell have you been? The team has been worried sick!" Natasha exclaims annoyed.
"What are you, my mother?" I stop myself, "I'm sorry, Natasha. I'm just not myself."
"Violet, tell me what's going on." She says to me, pleading me. "Tony said you yelled at Happy and Pepper."
When Natasha says that, I recall that I had yelled at her too. God, I am so screwed up. I sigh, putting my uneaten sandwich down.
"Natasha, for the past 19 days, I've been experiencing this weird grow spirt." I say confused, "First I thought I was on my period, then my boobs have started getting bigger, I've been hormonal and crazy, and to top all of this kick in the crotch shit—I'm getting fatter."
Natasha gives me a confused look. I can tell she's debating whether or not I am lying to her. I don't blame her.
"Violet, we're all worried about you." Natasha says finally, "You need to face Tony now. He's up in the party deck with the others. He's really worried about you."
"Can I at least bring my sandwich? I'm starving." I whine, Natasha rolls her eye at me.
Natasha walks towards the elevator, I follow her with my plate in my hands. I take a bite of my sandwich. God, it's so amazing! Natasha pushed the 7th floor button. Natasha looks at me eating my sandwich and rolls her eyes at me. Out of spite, I decide to be a jerk.
"You want a bite?" I say with a mouthful.
Natasha wrinkles her nose at me. "Not if you made it."
I shrug my shoulders. "Suit yourself, Romanoff."
Suddenly, the elevator jolts to a stop. My hand goes to my teach, protecting it. My damn instinct. I look over at Natasha, whose staring at me with a curious look on her face. I arch a brow at her.
"What? My fat jiggles when the elevator does that." Then I walk out of the elevator.
"What fat?" I hear Natasha call after me.
I can see the rest of the guys, with Happy and Pepper as well, sitting in the living room. Steve, Clint, And Happy have their backs to me. Bruce is in the recliner, as usual, while Pepper sits in the marble hand chair drinking a Dr. Pepper. Tony sits in his chair that he had recovered from the attack on New York. What really hurts me, or at least bothers me, is that they're all laughing. Without me. Natasha said that they were all worried sick about me, but I guess what she meant was that they were all sick of me. Tony notices me first, his face that was once smiling twist into a shocked expression. He stands up and walks over to me, along with Steve and Pepper. Clint and Happy both turn around in their spots on the couch. Steve and Tony nearly race to get to me, but Tony beats him by a few seconds.
I am swallowed up in Tony's arms. His arms wrap around me tightly, holding me close to him. His hand runs down my hair, holding my head close to the crook of his neck. Suddenly, Tony pulls back and starts to scream at me.
"Violet, don't ever run away from me like that again!" Tony shouts, "What the hell were you thinking? Where did you go?"
"Tony, stop yelling at her!" Steve says to Tony, a voice I've been want to hear for the past 19 days.
"Butt out, Cap." Tony snaps.
"Yelling got you into this mess, let's not end it by yelling." Steve says annoyed.
Tears begin to fall down my face. All I want is for someone to understand me. To listen to me. I want Steve. I back away from Tony and wipe my tears.
"I'm sorry!" I break down into tears, "I'm sorry, okay? I know all I do is screw up, I'm sorry! I'm a horrible daughter and a horrible friend."
Arms wrap around me, holding me close to their broad chest. I smell soap and coffee. Steve. I wrap my arms around him, somebody takes my plate with my remaining part of my sandwich. Steve runs a hand over the back of my head, holding me closer to his chest.
"Babying Violet won't do her any good, Rogers." Natasha this time.
"That's enough, Romanoff." Steve says, rubbing my shoulders. "We just need to sit down and have a calm talk. No yelling or pointing fingers. We just got back."
Steve walks me over to the couch, glaring at Tony. He sits me down in between him and Clint, who has my sandwich by the way. I wipe my tears away, feeling my nostrils clog with snot. Natasha sits on the arm rest of Bruce's recliner, crossing her legs and arms. They all stare at me expectantly.
"What?" I innocently.
"Violet, what is going on?" Steve sighs, annoyed.
"Don't yell at her, Rogers. Whatever you do!" Natasha warns.
"Romanoff, you're not funny." My boyfriend says annoyed.
"I don't know, Steve. I've been going through some changes lately and it's got my hormones all out of whack." I grab my plate from Clint and put it on my lap. "I've been yelling at people and feeling so down and emotional."
"Is something bothering you?" Bruce says, I shake my head.
"Only this back pain I have." I say with a slightly smirk, "I haven't been sleeping very well, and I've been sick."
"You were sick?" Steve says concerned.
"What? Why wasn't I informed?" Tony looks to Pepper.
"You were busy on your mission, I had things under control." Pepper says, "Until Violet screamed at me, that is."
"Pepper, I apologized to you for that." I say annoyed, "What do you want me to do?"
"Violet, something is wrong with you. You just need to tell us." Natasha looks tot he others, "I don't mind using Russian torture on her, if it comes to that point."
Both Tony and Steve give her a glare like look. I sigh and grab my sandwich. It's already warm, gross! Oh well. I take a bite of my sandwich, munching—something moves inside me. Literally, inside me. I gasp loudly, dropping my sandwich and the plate to the floor. My hand goes to my bulging stomach, I can feel the movement inside me. Fear fills me, leaving me shaking. Everyone begins shouting my name out, in either annoyance or shock. Tony crosses his arms angrily at me.
"Violet, that is an expensive rug!" Tony exclaims at me.
"Okay, that's it Darling. What is going on?" Steve demands beside me.
I grab Steve's hand and put it on my bulging stomach, letting him feel the strange movement inside me. It continues to move, hitting me harder and harder by each kick. I look to Steve, whose eyes have grown wide.
"Steve, what the hell is that?" I say fearfully.
"What is it, Rogers?" Natasha says
"Bruce, you're a doctor." Steve motions for Bruce to come over to us. "Come over here and tell me what this is."
Clint stands stand up and walks over to where Natasha sits. Bruce sits down, unsure what is happening like the rest of the others in the room.
"What am I supposed to look at?" Bruce says slightly concerned to why Steve had him walk over there.
I lift up my hoodie, revealing my bulging stomach. I hear a couple gasps, especially from Bruce. The movement starts again, making me jump. I let out a small whine, wincing as the movement hits my belly hard. I hold my stomach, wishing for it all to stop.
"Is it cancer?" Natasha says, making both Tony and Steve wince.
Bruce turns to Tony, worry in his dark eyes. That look worries me. It means something bad is happening.
"I'm going to go give Dr. Cho a call." Bruce stands up and walks over to the bar area, getting his cellphone out.
I lean into Steve, he puts an arm around me. I hold my stomach as the moment continues to move inside me.
