I looked down at the grass beneath me. The cool night air chilling the tears that rolled down my cheeks.

I looked up at the stars,

I buried my face in my hands and sobbed quietly.

I felt cold fingers lift my chin up and my eyes opened to see Richie kneeling in front of me,
smiling.

"Hey eds"

I leaped forward and tackled him to the ground, wrapping my arms around his neck and squeezing tightly.
His scent filled me up, cigarettes and lavender.

His arms wrapped around my back and he buried his face in my neck

"Richie! You came back!"

He laughed,
god I missed that laugh.

"Just for a moment, love"

His fingers swept through my hair and his arm rested on the small of my back.

"I miss you spaghetti man, you know that right?"

I nodded and wiped the tears from my eyes

"I miss you too bubba"

He smiled and grabbed my hand, lacing our fingers together

"And I love you oh, so much.
I just had to tell you again."

I smiled and my voice came out shaky

"I love you too Rich..."

"I'm so proud of you baby, keep going.
I know you'll be amazing in life and Stan and Bill, and all the other losers will be right by your side."

I placed a hand on his cheek, feeling the soft skin below my finger tips

" come back Richie.
I need you."

"I can't, love... but I'll see you again. Now stop crying, I've cried a lot too, but I know I'll see you again."

"No bubba! Don't go! I love you so much and I miss you! I need you here!"

"Trust me baby,
I'll see you again.
I'll be waiting for you,
in the stars"

He swiped my tears away with his thumb.

"I love you eds"

He leaned up and kissed me, our lips together in perfect unison. I began crying again, missing the familiar taste of nicotine on his lips. My eyes fluttered shut and I let his warmth take over my body.

And when I opened my eyes,
he was gone.
