"Play wif me Lili?" Niall asked, giving his best begging puppy eyes as he held out a toy car for his older brother to take.

"Not right now, Ni," Liam frowned. He stared out the car window sadly. He just wasn't having a good morning, or a good week for that matter. Nothing seemed to be going his way, and nobody seemed to care. His friends were stressed with school, the same way he was, and anyways, guys didn't talk to friends about their feelings. (A/N I hate that this is the way the world goes. Guys have feelings too. Society should allow them to express themselves) His parents were always busy with work and with his little brother. Niall was the only one who seemed to have time for him, but Liam wasn't exactly in the mood to play with a toddler. Besides, when he did give in and play, it didn't take long for Niall to get upset about something he did.

"Please Li? Pleeeeeeease?" Niall's voice was high and whiny and it cut into Liam's thoughts sharply.

"No, Niall, I said no!" Liam snapped, just wanting his brother to give up begging and leave him to his moodiness. "Would you just be quiet already!"

At that, the toddler began to cry, making Liam instantly feel bad. To make matters worse, his dad turned around from the passenger seat.

"Liam James! What was that for? You know he just wanted to play!"

Liam turned his head to the window again, blinking back tears. He hadn't meant to be mean. It was just that he hadn't been able to sleep well all week because he'd been up late working on his English paper which was due Friday, the next day, and the lack of sleep combined with the stress was making it difficult to control himself. He knew it, but he couldn't seem to do anything about it.

"Alright, out you get, Liam," the boy's Papa said as he shifted the car into park in the drop off loop of the high school. "Have a good day, yeah?"

"Kay," Liam grunted as he hoisted his heavy backpack onto his back and headed into the building.

It was not a good day.

In first period science, they had a pop quiz that Liam's brain was totally not ready for after spending so long on English the night before. Second period history was just plain boring. So boring, in fact, that he started to doze off. When the teacher called him out, he had to blink back tears of humiliation. At lunch, all his friends, who usually sat together and had a blast, were hard at work on their English essays. Liam just wanted a break from thinking about it since he'd spent so much time on it already, but since they were all working on it, he felt pressured to do so as well. In third period English, they ended up having a period to work on the essay, which should have been a good thing. However, it was just too much for Liam and he ended up staring blankly at the computer screen for the whole period. Afterwards, he was very frustrated at himself for not being able to get anything done.

Even with everything else that had gone wrong, fourth period math brought the worst blow, though not until the very end. After teaching the lesson and assigning homework, the teacher announced that she would be handing back the tests from that Monday. Liam wasn't worried; math was his best subject. Usually when they were receiving tests back, the teacher would lay it face up on his desk, an A marked nicely in red pen on the front, and give him a big smile, commending him on his good work. But that day, she put it face down and didn't say anything, just gave him a sad look. With dread rushing through his veins, Liam turned over the test.
