It had already been a long morning when you arrived at class 1-A. You dropped your cereal before you could get one bite and you tripped on your dog on the way out. You knew it would only get worse and worse as you went on with your day, as it was midterms. You prayed to god that Bakugo would go easy on you today. But you knew it would never be that simple. He picked on you almost more than he picked on anyone else.

You opened the door to the classroom, and you were already five minutes late. Please let Mr. Aizawa be even later than me, you thought to yourself. But to your dismay, he was already leaning on his desk, talking to the class in his low, grumbly voice. When you walked in, all eyes were on you, and several people whispered amongst themselves.

"Nice of you to join us, L/N. You couldn't have chosen a worse day to be late," he said. You blushed, and shuffled to your seat.

"I'm sorry, Mr. Aizawa. It wasn't on purpose, I swear," you bashfully whispered. You sat down in your seat in front of Katsuki, and set your things down.

"I was hoping that you wouldn't show up, L/N. Guess you just had to grace us with your presence though," Bakugo said to you, making you blush even deeper. This was one of the worst days of your life.

Aizawa continued to speak, but you didn't really pay attention to most of it. "...anyways, since we finished with the writing part of midterms yesterday, we have to begin with the practical side of things... your partners will be assigned by highest scorer of the writing test to lowest scorer of the writing test, second best to second worse, so on. So that would mean Denki would go with Momo, Iida would go with Mina, Katsuki with Y/N..." Aizawa went down the list as you tuned out. The one thing that would make your day better would to be with anyone but Bakugo.

Katsuki let out a long sigh, and said, "You better not screw up my score, nerd." You squeezed your eyes shut at the idea of messing him up. Nothing could be worse. He would never let you breath if you did that.

The classroom was filled with excitement and joy, as most of the low scoring people were happy they could have a high scorer help them out. That would be the case for you, if Bakugo wasn't your partner. While they were all excitedly discussing strategy with their partners, you wondered why you couldn't have gotten one place up and paired with someone else.

"Alright, settle down class. Please follow me to where your test will be held," Aizawa sighed. Everyone got out of their seats and followed him to a big simulation of a city, much like the one at the entrance exams.

Izuku walked next to you the whole time, babbling on about All Might, other students, and many other things that made you giggle at his excitement. "Are you nervous that you got paired with Bakugo?" Izuku asked. It was the first real statement he said today that caught your ears. His big green eyes studied you innocently and brightly.

"I'm pretty nervous," you said, "Bakugo has been really mean and impatient with me lately, but then again, when is he ever patient?" Izuku nodded, understanding exactly what you meant.

"Well, good luck, Y/N! I'm sure you'll do great!" He said happily. Yeah right, you thought to yourself. You all continued to walk to through the site, till Aizawa abruptly stopped, turning to face the class.

"Here's the site. What you will be doing today is much like the entrance exams. But there's one main difference. You can't destroy the robots, you have to successfully tie them up and capture them without breaking them. This is much like fighting villains in real life, because a real hero does not kill unless absolutely necessary. Understood?" Aizawa explained. Everyone nodded their heads, this seemed an easy task.

"You will each be given a roll of extremely durable tape. If you wrap them up enough, you shouldn't have to worry about them escaping," he said. "Now get into your groups and discuss strategy. I'm sure you all think this will be easy, but I assure you that it's harder than it sounds."

You swallowed down a lump in your throat. Everyone seemed to forget how strong the robots were. Sure, they were easy to destroy, but they were powerful and it would take a lot of tape to prevent them from moving. You shuffled over to Bakugo, lowering your head, for you knew he wouldn't want to work together with anyone, much less you.

"I expect you to stay out of my way, L/N. I'm not gonna carry you through this just because you scored low," he growled. You already knew this but him saying this choked out the last piece of hope you had. Your quirk was not very useful for fighting, it was better for rescue and attempting to calm down people.

"I know Bakugo. But I think it would be easier if we worked together. Don't take this the wrong way, but your quirk is for destroying and attacks, not capturing things," you said, cowering. Bakugo just scoffed, rolling his eyes.

"Yeah right, loser. Have I not proven my tactical side as well as my fighting side enough yet? Or do I have to prove it again to you worthless people?" He yelled, each word making his voice grow more ferocious. You bowed your head even more and knew that he could easily dominate either way.

He walked off in his own little world, leaving you dumbfounded. This is bad, you thought. I'm going to do terribly. I-

Hic!

"Oh no!" You whispered. Whenever you had hiccups they were almost irreversible, they lasted for hours, even a whole day occasionally.

Hic!

The class heard you, and let out a collective sigh. This happened often enough for people to know how this went.

This was a common consequence of your quirk. When you spoke and focused hard enough, anyone nearby would listen. No matter what. They would become intrigued and come closer to hear all you would say. They would stop what they were doing. Although you were also very strong and very capable of taking anyone or anything down, you knew that this would be hard without the help of a partner.

You didn't know why you got hiccups so much, you'd been told many times but never cared to listen. All you knew is that it was thanks to your quirk. Your vocal cords were different from everyone else's. You kept thinking worrying thoughts as your other class mates went, and suddenly, it was your turn.

"Bakugo, L/N, you're up!" Aizawa shouted. You nearly fainted as you got up and walked into the simulation.

Hic! Hic!

Bakugo side-eyed you and scoffed once again. He didn't say anything but you knew it pissed him off.
Start! A mechanical voice said. Bakugo blasted off, leaving you in the dust. You ran after him, roll of tape in hand, determined not to fail.

As you took down two or three robots, you were aware that your hiccups were causing you to fail miserably. It was hard to focus as your whole body shook with each hiccup. Time was almost up, only two minutes left when Bakugo ran up to you.

You only had four robots down, while Bakugo had around fifty. You saw him run past you and watched as he pinned a robot down, staring you down.

"What are you waiting for, idiot? Tape him!" He screamed.

Hic! Hic! Hic!

You stumbled over to him and taped him down, Bakugo's sudden help took you by surprise.

You two continued to tape down robots, getting your numbers well into the twenties, when time ran out.

Gasping for air, you glanced at Bakugo. He had barely broken a sweat, and you saw he was looking at you too. He started walking off without warning. "Wait-" you called after him, but he kept walking. It was thanks to him that you didn't utterly fail the test, and you had no idea why he helped you.

You sat and watched at the rest of the tests went on, and before you knew it, the day was over.

The bell rang, and everyone walked out of class. After tests were done, you didn't do much but sit in class 1-A and wait for school to be over. You picked up your things and walked out the door.

As you were walking home, a firm hand grabbed your shoulder and whipped you around. To your surprise, it was Bakugo.

"Katsuki, what-" you said before you were cut off by his hand on your mouth.

"Listen, nerd. Don't think too hard about what I did today. I only did it... because..." he stumbled over his words, something that you had never seen before. He was usually so confident and quick, but this was different.

"Why did you help me?" You asked before he finished his sentence. He furrowed his brows and sighed.

"Listen, F/N, I've got a bit of a soft spot for you. Don't think you've got me wrapped around your finger or anything ridiculous like that, just know you're pretty damn special to me," he admitted. You gasped, because all of his jerkiness towards you was just a facade for his real feelings.

"Bakugo, I didn't know!" You responded quickly. You both stood there in silence, just looking at each other, then looking away.

"Your hiccups are finally gone," he finally quipped. He was right, his admittance of his feelings scared you enough to get rid of your hiccups.

You started laughing and started to turn. "Well I'll see you tomorrow, Bakugo."

"Yeah. See you, nerd," he said softly. You started walking, then he grabbed your arm, firmly but not enough to hurt you. He pulled you close, and kissed you, hard. It only lasted a few seconds, and when he pulled away, he laughed softly. "Yeah. I'll see you."

He disappeared down the sidewalk, smirking to himself.
