You wiped the dust off of your skirt and sighed deeply. You had tripped over a root that stuck out of the ground and fallen. Your tights had a brand new hole in them, similar to the rest. You were known for being clumsy around your class. People would often scoff at your clumsiness and bashfulness, especially when you were around Kirishima.
On this occasion, you were walking through the grass on your way to class when Kirishima ran by you, turned around while still running backwards, waved and said, "Hey, Y/N!"
Of course, you just had to say hi back, and the second you took your eyes off the ground and waved back, you tripped and fell. Kirishima had already ran away at this point, but normally he would help you up so you wouldn't feel as embarrassed.
You started to pick up the things that had fallen out of your bag. Some students from your class saw everything that happened, and one of those students was Mina. She broke from the group to come and help you. "You know, you always seem to be just a little bit more clumsy when Kirishima walks by. Now why would that be?" She teased. You rolled your eyes and picked up a stray notebook.
"It didn't mean anything. He just distracted my train of thought for a moment," you lied. More like he distracted me with his cuteness, you thought. Mina seemed to read your thoughts easily.
She wiggled her eyebrows and said, "You're so transparent it isn't even funny. It's soo obvious that you like him!" She laughed and poked your ribs a little.
"I so do not!" You squealed. She giggled and waved as she walked off. You picked up your bag and continued to walk to class, a billion thoughts going through your head. Sure, you trusted Mina with your secret. About as much as you would trust a baby with a hot stove. But there was an amount of trust there.
The next day
You walked into your hero training class for the day, and sat down in your desk. A little giggle escaped from Mina as you sat down, but you decided to ignore it. Who knows what it could be about anyways?
"Talked to Kirishima lately?" She asked. You sat there confused, when you remembered the conversation you had yesterday.
"You didn't tell him anything, did you?" You panicked. She giggled and walked off, sitting in her usual seat. You nervously turned away from her and started taking out your things. Maybe it's nothing.
The last of the people filed into class, including Kirishima, who sat directly behind you. Aizawa walked in and started talking about what the class would be doing today. He announced that the class would be doing special training today in pairs. The second he said 'pairs,' Kirishima tapped your shoulder. "Wanna be mine?" He asked. What did he just say? You screamed in your head.
"Huh?" You squeaked. You weren't paying attention to class so you were more than a little confused.
"Wanna be my partner?" He repeated. You sighed heavily, half of relief and half of disappointment.
"Yeah, okay," you replied. He smiled and went back to listening to instructions.
"So today you all will be competing against other teams in an obstacle course specifically designed to work against your quirks. I'm not gonna sit here and tell you it'll be easy. Go get your hero costumes on," he directed. Everyone shot up out of their seats and went to go get dressed.
"So you're Kirishima's partner, huh Y/N?" Mina said as the girls got dressed. You nodded silently as you slipped on your skin-tight shirt and pants. Your costume was black and white, like that of a penguin's. It was that way because your quirk was Snow. You could simply create snow out of thin air, so you usually used it to make spears or to make movement quicker. You put on your helmet, yellow with a black visor.
As you walked out into the arena, you spotted Kirishima and walked over to him. He smiled and waved, coaxing you over to him. As you walked over, you got somewhat distracted by his toothy smile and tripped over your own feet. He caught you before you hit the ground, saving you from breaking your face. "Hey there," he said, turning you over so his face inches away from yours. You pushed the visor up and laughed dryly.
"Hey, thank you," you said. He laughed and helped you stand again. Why the hell am I so clumsy? You screamed in your head. You could still feel the warm imprint of where his arms and hands had touched you when he caught you. You blushed and smiled to yourself while, unknown to you, Kirishima was blushing and smiling to himself. He wanted to be able to hold you in his arms again.
Then, without warning, the whistles blew and everyone was off. You both immediately started sprinting towards the obstacle course. "You lead the way, I'll watch our backs!" You yelled to Kirishima. He nodded and continued sprinting throughout various alleyways and ducking underneath stray pipes sticking out of buildings. Who knows, maybe someone (like Bakugo) would deliberately mess you guys up. Someone needed to be a lookout. He hardened his forearms and hands and ran and jumped at a building, sticking them into the side. He climbed up effortlessly.
"Grab my leg, okay?" He shouted down to you. You obliged and grabbed on, while he continued to pull himself and you to the top. Once he reached the top of the building, you could see everywhere that would be a challenge for you. You saw several heat vents on the sides of buildings and on the ground, probably specifically put there for you. You scoffed and followed Kirishima as he jumped from roof to roof. You used your snow to push yourself forward, blasting it out of your palms as you ran.
You stared at his muscles moving in his back as he ran. He was only two feet ahead of you, but before you knew it, there was no longer any building beneath you. You were falling.
He had jumped while you hadn't even noticed there was a small, one and a half foot gap between the two buildings. You screamed as you fell. Think of solutions, idiot!
You created the strongest spear you could, and stabbed it into a pipe sticking out of the building. You stopped falling, and jerked yourself up with your strength. "Oh my god, are you okay?" Kirishima yelled down to you. You looked up and saw him peeking over the edge of the roof. He extended his hand and you took it. He pulled you up to his level easily.
Once you were up, you noticed how close you really were to him. "Hey there," you whispered.
"Hey," he whispered back. He was breathless and so were you. Suddenly, Bakugo blasted by you, and the realization that you were in a race right now came crashing down. You both immediately started sprinting again, hand in hand, so you wouldn't fall again. "Don't worry, I've got you," he assured. You smiled and ran as fast as you could in order to keep up with him.
The finish line came into view, and you noticed that there were only two groups that had finished before you. Third, that's not terrible. We only got third cause of me though. I'm sure Kirishima would have gotten first otherwise.
Once you both crossed the finish line, it wasn't long after that the rest of the class was done too. It wasn't nearly as hard as you expected it to be. Maybe it was just another 'logical ruse.'
As you walked out of the locker room, Kirishima caught you walking by him. You two were alone in the hallway, and to your surprise he had showered and his hair was down. No hair gel, no spikes. You blushed at how cute he looked this way.
"Hey, we did pretty good today didn't we?" He said as he followed you down the hallway.
"You did good. I probably would have died if it wasn't for you," you joked. He shook his head in disagreement.
"Nah, you were fine. You had a hold on that pipe. Anyways, I enjoyed being your partner," he said. "Makes me wanna do it more often."
"Like lab partner? Project partner? Gym partner?" You asked. Your heart was pounding in your throat as he stopped and turned to face you. He was merely inches away from your face.
"I mean," he said, pushing your hair back behind your ear, "I want you to be my girlfriend. You know, all that stuff." He smiled softly and waited earnestly for your reply. Your stomach nearly dropped out of you and your whole world shattered.
"G-girlfriend?" You repeated dumbly. He nodded and shifted his weight, making it apparent how he was nervous.
"What do you say?"
"Of course I'll be your girlfriend," you smiled. He let out a huge sigh of relief. His hand was on your jaw, and he rubbed your skin with his thumb.
"Sounds like a plan," he decided. He tilted your chin up, and placed his lips on yours softly. He tasted like cinnamon, and his hair tickled your forehead as you kissed, the evening sun shining through the windows behind you.
He pulled back from the brief kiss and stared at your eyes. "You have no idea how long I've wanted to do that," he sighed happily.
"Me too," you said. He smiled and wrapped his arm around your waist, pulling you in for another kiss with his strong hands wrapped around your waist as though he would never want to let you go. His tongue delicately touched yours, each contact sending shivers down your spine.
Maybe being clumsy wasn't that bad after all.
