Disclaimer: This one has a little angst in it, but I'll do a more sweet one with Ojiro in the future. This plot just felt right. Sorry Ojiro stans, you'll have to wait a little for interaction between the reader and him.
Wiping a little sweat off your brow, you stood back and admired your handiwork. Blue streamers hung from the walls and balloons of the same color were floating effortlessly on strings. You turned out the lights and were met with the soft glow of yellow Christmas lights. You smiled and turned the lights back on, leaving the room to go and buy some more food.
Today was your best friend's birthday. Ojiro and you had taken a liking to each other nearly the very first day of school. You spent a lot of your nights training and studying with him, for it was more enjoyable than spending your evenings alone. At first it was so you both wouldn't be alone, but it turned into a real friendship. He told you everything and you did the same to him.
You invited the whole class of course, but no one really helped you out in planning. Since school was out already and people were making plans with their loved ones, you were the only one who committed to planning. Although Momo helped invite the class and she set up some tables in the commons area. Iida hung up some of the streamers that were too high for you to reach, and Izuku helped to distract Ojiro for a while so you could set everything up.
The party was going to start soon, and people were starting to come out of their dorms or come in from outside. You arrived right along with several others, carrying some food and drinks so people could eat. Denki greeted you with a grin then went immediately to the sacks that you just set down, rummaging through them for food. "Nice to see you too, Kaminari," you said dryly.
He looked at you with at least five Oreos in his mouth and mumbled something which you didn't understand and walked away. You chuckled a little and set out the food and drinks so they would be easier to access.
Ever since the sports festival when Ojiro humbled himself by dropping out of the finals because he found it unfair to those who actually put in effort, you couldn't keep your mind off of him. It had been several months since that occasion, but you never mustered up the courage to tell him how much you admired his humbleness and humility. Well, it was more than just an admiration.
Your phone buzzed, so you took it out to see who it was. It was Izuku, blowing up your phone.
Izuku: y/n! We're almost here! I hope you guys are all ready because he's anxious to get home.
Izuku: y/n? Are you there?
Izuku: currently on school grounds, should be there in five minutes
You laughed to yourself, typing out a response.
We're ready. Just be prepared to make up white lies.
Izuku: I've had to lie so much today it isn't even funny
Ok well we're hiding so we can surprise him.
Izuku: alright. Walking up to the building right now.
You announced to everyone to get into their hiding spots. Nervous and excited giggles escaped from various dark corners as you shut off the lights and ran to hide.
The door clicked open and you heard mumbling from Izuku. Ojiro's face lit up brightly as everyone jumped out from their hiding spots and yelled "surprise!"
"What?" He yelled, laughing. He jumped a little as Hagakure grabbed his shoulder from behind, giving him a good scare. He put his hand on hers, laughing even harder. Several of your classmates ran up to him, telling him happy birthday and such. You walked up to him and gave him a side hug.
"Happy birthday, Ojiro," you said happily. He smiled and hugged you back.
"Thank you. I assume you're behind all of this?"
"Well, Izuku and Momo helped a bit I guess," you said humbly.
"Alright alright. I know it was mainly you," he laughed. You giggled and looked at your feet, blushing a little. "Well thank you. You have good taste in streamers," he said, gesturing to the various paper strips hanging from the walls. You started to say something, but you were interrupted by Mina blasting some music. "Okay, can I talk to you in a little bit?" He yelled over the music. You nodded and watched as he walked over to the food.
You sighed and nudged the rug under your feet. Recently he had been less and less of a friend and more and more of just another classmate. You glanced over to see Ojiro talking to an empty space, presumably Toru Hagakure. You trudged over to the snacks and shoved chips in your face. Tonight would be miserable. And if not that, then it would be boring.
The night went on slowly, not at all like you hoped. You wanted to play it cool, flirt with Ojiro a little bit, then finally tell him how you felt. It seemed like the perfect night to do that, which was why you put so much effort into planning it. He seemed ungrateful at best. Instead of spending time with you, he spent it all with Hagakure. It hurt more than a little, but it was his birthday. He spent almost every other day with you, so he deserved to spend time with his classmates.
You sat on the couch, alone, and watched them all have fun. You felt like a stick in the mud, but you couldn't bring yourself to perk up. You heard Hagakure's high voice and Ojiro's laugh every couple minutes, and it just reminded you of how he favored her over you.
The party started to wear down, and it was at the point where only you and Ojiro remained. He walked over to where you were sitting and plopped down next to you. "Some party, huh?" He asked, his cheeks red and a smile on his face.
"Yup," you stated simply. Your basic reply caught his attention. You were usually quick to a joke and talkative around him.
"Something wrong?" He prodded. He poked your ribs, something that usually cheered you up and made you giggle.
"I don't know. It's selfish of me, but I just kind of wanted you to myself," you said quietly.
"Well we can go out and eat something. We can spend some time together," he offered. You looked at him. He didn't get it. Anger spiked inside of you, but you tried to keep a calm tone.
"You don't understand. I always spend time with you. Which I enjoy. A lot. I like spending time with you," you hinted. He still looked confused, rubbing his mouth with his hand. "Okay, I'll spell it out for you. I actually like you. Like I wanna spend time with you as more than friends."
His face blushed a little, touched by your honesty. But he quickly shook it off and sighed. "I understand now. But Y/n, while I enjoy spending time with you too, I don't feel the same way about you," he explained solemnly. Your heart sank and you bit your lip, forcing yourself to not cry.
"It's Hagakure, isn't it? You have feelings for her."
He swallowed and looked at his hands in his lap. "Yeah," he whispered. You both sat there in silence, not able to think of what to say.
"Please leave me," you hissed through your teeth.
"Y/n, please don't do that. You're my best friend," he begged.
"Just go," you said louder. "I wanna be alone." He sat there a moment longer, pondering whether to go or not. "Leave!"
He got up quickly and walked out, leaving you sniffling in the dark. He glanced back at you, guilt gripping his throat and choking the breath out of his lungs.
You let your tears flow and you stared pointlessly out the nearest window. You slowly got up and started tearing down streamers and throwing them away. Through your tears you couldn't hear Bakugo entering the kitchen, but you nearly had a heart attack when he said, "Need help with those, shorty?"
You spun around and faced him, staring him
down. His face was unamused and barely lit from the lights hung up around. "You scared me, asshole," you groaned.
"Okay, so you don't need my help. I'm leaving then," he growled. You sighed.
"No... I'm sorry. You can stay. I could use some help."
"Fine," He grunted. He walked over to a wall diagonal from you and tore down streamers and balloons. "What even happened here?"
"It was Ojiro's birthday. Weren't you there?" You explained.
He huffed and tore down a banner that said 'Happy Birthday' with force. "I don't even know who that is."
"He's the guy with the tail." You saddened even more, thinking about how the person who impacted your life the most this year couldn't be like that for every one. You let out a little laugh. It's kind of weird to think of how the person who your world revolved around was just another guy to everyone else.
"Oh. That guy," He said, holding open a trash bag so you could throw away the decorations. You couldn't hold it in anymore, and started crying again. You tried to hide it from him, but he was very observant and made a 'tch' sound.
"I'm sorry. You can go to bed. Thank you for helping me," you said, waving him off. He stayed silent, trying to think of something to say to comfort you, but obviously that isn't his forte.
He sighed, and tied the bag shut. "I'm not leaving." He stated. Apparently it wasn't optional. He sat down on a couch and rested his head in his hand. He looked at you and raised his eyebrows. You took his hint and sat down next to him, awkwardly adjusting yourself for a moment. He wrapped his arm around you and pulled you in so you would be comforted.
"I told Ojiro how I felt, and-" you started, but he interrupted you.
"Listen, I don't care what happened. That's your business. I'm just here so you're not crying alone in your room," he sighed. You nodded and rested your head on his chest, crying a little less now. He huffed slightly and pushed down the feelings he was experiencing deep down, under all the layers of pride and anger.
"Thank you, Bakugo," you whispered. He grunted and let you lean on him until you both passed out on the couch.-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-
Hey y'all, thank you so much for reading! I thought this chapter was pretty cute! I'll write an actual fluff chapter on Ojiro soon, but I thought this would be nice for now
I think we all know deep down inside that Bakugo is a sweetheart, even if he's a jerk 99% of the time.-Via💙
