This story might make some people mad, first of all because I'm making it an AU where Shoji has two arms and doesn't wear the mask, also because he's not an extremely popular character.
The main reason I wanted to do this story is because he was the character that caught my eye. When he first came on screen, I decided he was my favorite character. I loved his design, his voice, and as the story went on, I loved how much of a good guy he is. So please excuse me if you don't like this story, it's just something I'm trying out. Thank y'all for reading! 💕

Lipstick glided on your lips smoothly. You pressed them firmly together to spread it out, before smiling at yourself in the mirror. You looked perfect. No one could tell you any different tonight.
Tonight was your first date with Mezo Shoji. No one ever really thought you two would mix at all, for he was quiet, reserved, and polite while you were... not that. On the other side of the spectrum, you were noisy, goofy, and harsh sometimes. But nonetheless, a week earlier from where you are now, he had asked you on a date.
Now Shoji was known to be one of the better guys around. So you wanted to be the best girl around, just to prove to yourself you were the best. Not to mention how attractive Mezo was. He was the whole package, strong, handsome, polite and smart. Just your type, perfect.
You slipped on your shoes, short black heels. You spun in front of your mirror one last time, admiring your outfit. Mina had helped you pick it out, since she was one of the most fashionable people in 1A, besides Aoyama.
You wore a black, mid-thigh skirt, paired with a loose, burgundy tank top. It was warm out, so it was perfect for a date, although you weren't 100 percent sure what the date was going to be. When he asked you, he merely said "Would you like to go on a date? I have a fun idea on what to do." It was a bit cryptic, but you loved some mystery in your life.
Suddenly, you heard a knock on your door. You grabbed your purse, and dashed to the door. You whipped it open, to reveal Shoji dressed in black jeans, a t-shirt, and a leather jacket. He knows how to dress! You thought to yourself.
"Hey," he said quietly. He held out his hand to you, so you took it.
"Hello. So what do you have planned for us tonight?" You asked as he led you down your front steps. He said nothing, only smiled. You laughed nervously. "No seriously, what are we gonna do?"
"You'll see. I know a couple places that I think you would really like," he laughed. You smiled slightly.
"Well I'm sure you have something good planned. I was really looking forward to tonight," you admitted. He chuckled and continued to lead you down the street.
"Well there's more than one thing we'll be doing tonight," he announced. You blushed, your mind going to inappropriate places.
"Well, I really do hope your ideas don't lead to me getting embarrassed. I can only take so much."
"Well, this first thing shouldn't be too bad," he noted, pointing to a sign. As you read it, a smile grew across your face.
"Karaoke? You know me too well," you gushed. His mouth curled into a smile. You were known around UA for being very musical. Always humming a song, tapping your pencil to a beat, listening to music. People told you that you have a voice like an angel, so karaoke was pretty fitting.
"Yeah, I figured this might be at the top of the list for you," he smiled. You followed him through the front door, the cool air of the building hitting your face. You sat at a booth toward the back, and he slid in next to you.
He smelt like oak and pine, probably a result of him living closer to a park, you noted. His white fluffy hair fell over his eyes, compelling you to push it back. When you did, he turned to you in surprise, forming his mouth into a wide grin.
"I'm going to put our names down. There's no way you're gonna come here and not sing," you teased. His grin disappeared, not in surprise, but more in dread.
"Oh I'm a terrible singer. I wanted to come here for you, not me," he croaked nervously. "Although I'm not surprised. Yes, I will go up with you."
You smiled and skipped up to the front to put your names and song down. You calmly walked back towards Shoji, sitting down again. You both ordered food and drinks for your dinner.
"I'm pretty sure we're up next after this song. Nervous?" You asked.
"No. I've got you by my side, you're probably one of the best singers I've heard," he complimented. You smiled, tilting your head a little with happiness.
"Uh, next up we have Mezo and Y/N, singing Love Shack," the announcer stated. You giggled and hopped up, pulling Shoji up as well.
"Good song choice," he said to you sarcastically. You laughed and forced him up to the stage.
"What? It's a classic Karaoke song!" You said. He rolled his eyes, smiling. You picked up the mic and handed the other one to Shoji. His hands were shaking a little, so your reached down and held the empty one. The music started and you confidently started singing.
His voice was shaky as he started singing quietly along with you. You squeezed his hand tightly. That gave him the last bit of confidence he needed to keep singing. He started singing a little louder, smiling and belting every word. He had a deep, plain singing voice. He had great pitch though, and you had no idea where he got the impression that he couldn't sing.
The audience in front of you was cheering as the song ended, so you took a bow, Shoji following your actions. He jumped off the stage, offering his hand to help you down. You jumped into his arms, and he carried you right out the front door of the building. He set you down gently, as if you were glass and would break if he dropped you too abruptly.
"You're not too shabby, Mezo," you approved. He smiled, the corners of his eyes crinkling.
"Thank you, thank you. I probably couldn't have done it if you weren't up there. I get stage fright pretty badly," he stated. He started walking again with you following right next to him.
"Well I think it's sweet that you did this just for me, even though you hate singing in front of people. Thank you," you said.
"No, thank you. Now come on, the next place is only a little ways away," he smiled. He started walking faster, clearly excited for the next thing. You continued your witty banter with him, until the sky started to turn dark, and you passed less and less buildings. You were at the edge of town, nearly into a forest.
"How much farther? My shoes aren't really made for grass," you complained. In one swift movement, he swooped you up, carrying you like you were a feather.
"There. That solves one problem. Its only a little way. And don't worry, it's safe out here," he comforted, sensing your nervous energy. You wrapped your arms around his neck, excitedly waiting to see what he had planned next.
As he carried you up a hill, a clearance came into view. He sat you down so you could look around. There was a small shelter in the middle of the clearing, made out of various branches and leaves. The clearance was located at a high point, like a cliff, and it was overlooking the city below. Your mouth hung open in amazement, you brought your hands up to your mouth.
You turned around and saw Shoji crouching down in front of the shelter, spreading out a blanket. "What is this place?" You asked.
"I've come here since I was a little kid. Sometimes I couldn't handle my family or things happening around my house. I came up here to cool off and I have ever since. Cause I was up here so much, I decided I might as well make it comfortable," he said nonchalantly. He sat down on the blanket and coaxed you over.
"This is amazing. It's so beautiful up here," you said. You sat down next to him. He lay down on his back, and you lay down next to him. Neither of you said anything, just enjoying the silence and cool wind blowing over you. You shivered from the cold.
He pulled you in closer to him, wrapping his arms around you. You lay your head on his chest and closed your eyes...Shoji gently shook you awake. Your eyes peeled open, barely able to see anything. "It's almost 11. I need to get you home so your parents will let you hang out with me again," he whispered. You mumbled and let him help you up.
"How long was I out?" You asked.
"Only an hour," he said back. He picked you up and started carrying you back down the hill.
"You sure do like carrying me," you giggled.
He blushed profusely. "I just want you to enjoy yourself as much as possible. And you're clearly pretty exhausted right now," he said. You smiled and let him carry back to your house.
When you arrived, he carefully set you down. You both lingered there for a minute, not wanting to part ways.
"Thank you," you said. "I really enjoyed myself. We should do this again soon."
"Yeah, we really should. I like spending time with you." He towered over you, so he had to crane his neck to look down at you.
You both stood there, saying nothing. He bit his lip a little, and sweat beaded on his forehead. Finally, he leaned down, cupped your face in his hand, and collided his lips with yours. His lips were surprisingly soft, and they gently moved in motion with yours. The whole world slowed down around you, nothing was as important as what was happening right now.
He pulled back, and stood straight up again. He laughed nervously and scratched his neck. "I'll see you soon, alright?" He said. You said nothing in reply, and pulled him back down for one last kiss.
You released him, and turned to open your door. "Goodnight, Shoji."-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-
Hey, thanks so much for reading y'all. I feel like Shoji is suuuper underrated honestly, and I'm probably gonna write more chapters on him, expanding on this one.
I know this chapter probably won't get very popular, but I'm glad I wrote it. And as always, please leave suggestions for future stories!
