A drop of sweat dripped off your nose and landed on your shoe. You exhaled roughly and took in a quivering breath. You spun around sharply and swung your fists in the direction you thought Yaomomo was running. Your knuckles struck her jaw and she fell backwards onto the ground.
"Ouch!" She yelled. She rubbed the spot that you hit.
"Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to hit you so hard. It just happened," you said, extending your hand to her. She took it and stood up.
"Don't worry about it, I need to toughen up anyway," she shrugged. You laughed and brushed yourself off. You started walking towards the locker room and she soon followed.
"I think it's time to call it quits. It's too damn hot out here," you grumbled. She nodded in agreement and followed you through the door. You took off your gym clothes and changed into shorts and a t-shirt. You looked at your watch and noticed the time. "Damn, it's already 11:30. We've been at it for a while!" You gasped.
She picked up her gym bag and started walking out the door. "You coming? I'm staying at my house tonight, we should have a sleepover!" She exclaimed. You smirked and followed her out.
"Yeah that sounds like fun," You said, side-eyeing her playfully. You slowly pulled on your pants and brushed out your hair. You could tell she was getting impatient with you.
"Hurry up, then. The good thing is we can stay up as late as we want because tomorrow's Saturday. I'm surprised you aren't beat from all the extra training we did today, though," she said.
"Oh, after the training camp and how hard we've been pushed recently, it was nothing. Just lighthearted fun," you humble-bragged. She rolled her eyes.
"At least one of us got something from training tonight," she mumbled. You grabbed her hand and squeezed it.
"Hey, you know I'm joking. It was good to train with you. I already know that I'm stronger from it," you comforted. You hopped up and walked straight out the door, towards the subway station, with her following close behind.
Her smile returned. "Oh. Alright. Here's our train," she pointed out. You both hopped on and sat down next to each other. You put in some earbuds and looked out the window. Tensions had been high with Yaomomo ever since you'd been caught lying to her about your feelings for Todoroki. She had been infatuated with him for a while now, and the same went for you. But you cared more about her than some boy, even if it was a pretty boy. And you knew she felt the same way. An unspoken agreement had risen, that neither of you would go after him. You couldn't do that to each other.
The bond you had made with her in the past year meant more to you than anything. You were just ashamed that you lied to her.
"Hey, we're here." The train's brakes groaned and came to an abrupt halt. You grabbed your bag and followed her off the train. Her shoes clicked on the pavement as she walked down the street towards her long, winding driveway. You followed her through the gate, and into her house.
You threw your bag on her bed and sunk down onto the floor, your face buried in her plush carpet. "Long day?" She asked.
You sighed and rolled over onto your back. She gave you an understanding look and sat on the edge of her bed. "You know it."
She thought for a second. "Are you really tired or do you want to do something?" You furrowed your brows. Normally, she would have made you brush your teeth and go straight to bed.
"There's too much on my mind to sleep. Let's do something," you said, pulling yourself into a sitting position. She smiled and hopped up, clenching both her fists and holding them in front of her face, just like she always did when she got excited. You smiled at how adorable she looked and felt lucky to have such a best friend.
"Get up then! And put this over your eyes." She held out a scarf that she dug out of her drawer. You reluctantly took it and tied it across your face. A cold hand grabbed yours and led you through the house. Occasionally, you heard little giggles escape from her mouth, but other than that all you heard were your feet slapping on her linoleum floor.
You walked through a doorway and warm air blasted your face. You exclaimed in surprise as you bumped into her back, as she stopped abruptly. "Ok, here," she said happily. You started to take off the scarf, but she stopped you, so you dropped your hands. "Not yet."
You sighed. You still had no idea where you were, only that you were outside. The sound of crickets chirping and cicadas screeching was almost deafening. You reached out your hand to find Yaomomo, but she was nowhere. She had disappeared.
"Where are you?" You called out in a panic. Suddenly, two strong hands picked you up, and carried you down a step or two. "What the hell?" You screamed.
"It's okay, I promise," she said soothingly. You let out a short breath and waited for something to happen. One of the hands holding you stopped holding you, and without warning, your feet were submerged in freezing cold water.
"AHH!" You yelled. "That's so freaking cold," you blurted. You couldn't hold in your excitement, and laughter spilled out. Yaoyorozu joined in, laughing along with you. She took off the scarf, and you gasped to see the beautiful pool in front of you. "I had no idea you had a pool! Why have you never told me?"
"Mom just had it put in, she thought it would help my training," she shrugged, as if getting a giant pool installed into your backyard wasn't a big deal. You rolled your eyes and jumped into the pool, diving gracefully. She soon followed, splashing you as soon as you got up. You giggled and splashed her back, just wanting to get back at her for the major surprise she gave you tonight.
And that's how the rest of the night went, the two of you splashing back and forth. No one could stop the two of you, and when the sun finally came up, you never wanted to leave that pool.
