I had left the fire and Luke behind to find Ashton.
I really didn't expect him to get up and leave, especially without saying a word.
He didn't wander off too far. I found him skipping stones across the lake.
I slowly creeped behind him forgetting about the squeaky floorboards.
"Emma?" He questioned without turning around.
"Figure you needed some company." I sighed walking beside him while keeping my distance.
"Figure you needed some alone time to suck on your new boy toy's face." He huffed throwing another stone. It didn't skip on the water. It sank.
"Where is this coming from? I wasn't "sucking on his face" and he isn't my "boytoy". He's an old friend and I don't know where the fuck that kiss came from? It's not like I asked him to do it. Why you you care so much?" I yelled crossing my arms across my chest.
"Sorry. He sucked on your face. And, it's not exactly easy to see someone like you kissing someone like him." He frowned picking up another stone from his pile he formed.
"What the hell is that suppose to mean? And why the fuck does it even matter to you? You're not my boyfriend." I complained startling myself and him at the volume of my voice.
"I mean, someone as like- gorgeous as you? And c'mon, Luke is pretty much royalty. Every girl wants him. And, just because I'm not your boyfriend doesn't change my feelings about a kiss. Our state in this point of our friendship doesn't change how I see it." He said giving up on skipping rocks and just kicking them furiously into the lake.
I was shocked.
Literally I was speechless. It took me about three minutes of awkward silences to form words.
What did he mean "point in friendship?" We met less than 24 hours ago.
"Point in our friendship? We've barley just met. And you don't need to be jealous in any way. Luke is from my past. We won't date. Just friends." I said pulling Ashton's sweater sleeves over my knuckles.
But, telling Ashton that made me think of our friendship. How this could be us. Just friends.
"Good. I wanted you to be social but, keep your face to yourself. Promise?" He said holding out his pinky.
"Let's hope." I said spinning around before he had the chance to join our fingers.
--
It was almost curfew and Ashton had walked me back to my cabin.
Our hands were intwined until I got to the bottom of the stairs. Honestly, I've never had a friendship grow this fast. Why was I holding hands with a boy who I barley knew?
My previous boyfriend and I waited two months before we started holding hands and I've only known Ashton for not even a full day.
Ashton pulled me into a bear hug. His warm arms wrapped around my body and I've never wanted to stay somewhere so badly in my life. I just didn't want him to ever let go.
"I'll see you at breakfast." I said into his sweater.
"I'll see you too." He said pulling back.
He started walking backwards very slowly keeping all eyes on me.
I pouted and wiped away a fake tear.
"You look cute when you make that damn face, Emma." He said waving and then turning away and walking into the darkness.
