"Luke..I came here to talk about this friendship thing we have." I said pointing to a rock big enough for us both to sit on.
"Yeah. Sorta figured." He said giving an awkward chuckle.
"So, I'm not so sure if we can do it." I sighed sitting down.
"Well..I hope you realize we've never let relationships stop our friendships before." Luke said with a frown picking at the hole in his skinny jeans. "Like, Macey was cool with us being friends when I dated her and Josh was fine with us being friends when you guys dated." He let out a shaky breath
"I know..Ashton..he's just sorta different. Overprotective." I said with a giggle.
"Clearly." He said laughing. That laugh. I'll miss it.
"I can't even stand a damn 10 feet from you without the kid throwing me death glares and then wrap his arm around your waist or start sucking on your face." He said looking at me and then the ground. His gazes were a continuous swap.
"Too much PDA?" I said tucking my hair behind my ear. I realized how less nervous I was. It was a habit of being nervous. Ashton still gave me butterflies every time our gaze locked but I had stopped until now.
"A little. I mean, every time in look your way, he's smooching your cheek or playing with your hair. Not that I blame him I mean..look at you." He said staring me in the eyes. "Shit I'm sorry..I mean..uh never mind. Shouldn't have said anything." He said running his fingers through his quiff.
"Luke." He didn't say anything. "Luke." I said louder. "Look at me." I spoke.
His blue eyes aligned with mine. Pain replaces the happiness which is usually there.
"I'm sorry." I started off. I sweared to myself I wouldn't cry but this shit is serious.
"I'm sorry we can't be fri- no. You know what. No. I can't. I'm not fucking letting you go. I'm not throwing away a friendship that means the world to me even though we drifted I can't. I can't fucking do this." I said putting my head in my hands. And they came. The unwanted tears fell and I could feel my mascara starting to smear.
"Emma..Emma don't cry." Luke said moving closer to me. He started rubbing my back in sympathy.
"Sorry. I just- I don't know. You know me, you've seen me cry what? 30 times?" I said laughing rubbing away the mascara that smeared.
"28." He said laughing.
"You've counted?" I asked shocked.
"Perhaps?" He said running his fingers through his hair again.
"I'm sorry. I should probably go talk to Ashton now." I said standing up whiping my hands on my shorts.
"I'll see you around." He said standing beside me.
We hugged. It's what we do. We are friends.

I walked around to find my friends still sitting near the cabin.
"Emma." Hayley stood up running and hugging me. Laura following and Michael and Calum. "We're sorry." Calum whispered.
"It's fine." I responded still kind of upset.
They all cleared away to revel a sad looking Ashton.
"Welcome back, babes." He said walking up to me and wrapping his arms around my waist.
He pressed a kiss to my forehead.
"We need to talk." I whispered.
