To call the flight back to the tower uncomfortable was an understatement would itself clearly be an understatement. You shifted awkwardly in your seat throughout the journey as Clint shamelessly gawked at you with a little lust and a lot of reminiscence in his eyes most of the time. Steve kissed you everytime he saw Clint looking at you merely to make a statement.Thor and Natasha had noticed it and tried to engage Clint in a conversation but it didn't waver him for long. Somehow, the conversation would simply cease itself and Clint's attention would be brought back to you. You never even dared to look into his eyes. You couldn't, not after what happened just the night before.
As you arrived at the mansion, everybody quietly got out of the quinjet while Steve put an arm over your shoulders protectively or rather possessively, per day. You two walked into the living room with the rest of the team upon exiting the elevator. "Alright. I already asked Jarvis to look into some stuff and someone's cleaned out your old room. It's all ready and you can-" Tony turned to Clint and started talking only to be cut mid sentence by him.
"I'd like to stay in my old room." He said. Of course he wanted to stay there, meaning the room that once belonged to you which also became the room that you shared with Clint after your relationship had gotten ready for it.
"Um..." Tony hummed awkwardly and locked eyes with you for a brief second before continuing to speak. "That room will take a bit of work into it." He said.
A bit of work? The room would probably require a complete renovation after what you did to it. Around a couple of years after Clint had left the Avengers, your therapist had been trying to channel your despair into mechanical output which had lead to an outright blunder. Your powers had broken out, destroying your room from the top to the bottom. Having been taken over by your pain that had transformed into utter rage, you had summoned an axe using the metal in the room and used it to tear the room apart from its very existence. How could he do this to you? How could a mere iota of misunderstanding fuck up so big? Could Clint not have used his fucking brain for once?
You were only stopped by Steve who had come over upon hearing the breaking noises. He had wilfully moved to a room on your floor to care after you since the depression had taken over you rather dangerously. You didn't hold yourself back anymore and kissed Steve at that very moment. All hell broke lose and both yours and Steve's venereal cravings dissolved the crack that had formed between the two of you after Clint's departure. You had moved into Steve's room on the same floor the very next day and that's how your relationship had grown thereon.
"I can sleep on the couch here?" Clint shrugged.
"I have many other guest rooms ready." Tony said, clearly offended. His tower could accommodate a hundreds men at any given time with the utmost luxuries ready and Clint wanted to sleep on the couch?
Clint, being oblivious of the offence he had caused upon the billionaire, walked around and familiarised himself with the interiors of the mansions once again.
"Come on, let's go to our room." Steve said quietly to you and pulled you to the elevator lobby again. You were tired as well and nodded as you followed him. Both of you were silent on the way to your room.
As you followed Steve and closed the door behind upon entering your room, you saw him sit on the edge of the bed with a heavy sigh. He patted the space next to him and rubbed his face with another sigh.
"Everything okay?" You asked albeit knowing the cause behind the Captain's distress.
Steve simply shook his head. "I'm afraid, Y/N." He whispered as his guts turned inside out. Even the very epitome of courage and bravery found himself getting sick at the fright from a mere thought of losing someone.
