After around half an hour, you heard a knock at your door. You put the book down and looked at the door. "Steve." You sat up quickly as you saw him walk in.
"Banner told me he mended your wings." Steve said as he walked closer to your bed and looked at your wings. "Maybe you'll manage not to be a liability anymore." He said nonchalantly, making you uncomfortable as he stared at your wings.
Well I wasn't a liability when I kicked his ass, you thought. "Yeah. Maybe." You said. You looked at him as he sat down on the chair Thor had left by your bedside. "I'm sorry. For everything." You said to him.
"It's fine. I realised nobody can really blame you. It's just what you are." He scoffed and you gulped.
"What do you mean?" You looked at him.
Steve sat back and shrugged, "You know what you are, Y/N. You stole someone's wings, you burnt who knows how many people alive, you lay with men. How further could you stoop?" He sighed. "You're a disgrace to the Avengers initiative. The others will find out about it soon enough." Steve stood up and walked behind you.
He took your left wing in his hand and pressed it. It was more of a curious press than a violent one, but it hurt you a lot. "Don't..." you flinched and tried to move but couldn't because of the pain. Steve didn't let go.
"This hurts? How will you cope up with all the pain and wounds in the battlefield?" He pressed it more this time. Tears brimmed your eyes but you didn't say anything. You started to understand Steve's point, if you were going to use your wings in a fight you'd have to get used to the pain that came with it. You let out a muffled scream when Steve pulled out one of the feathers. Your wings reacted to it more than you did, moving rigorously and hitting Steve in the guts. You stood up and backed away as the soldier hit the wall behind him. That is when Bruce came in.
"Hey why are- Steve? What are you doing here?" Bruce asked, coming to stand alongside you. You watched Steve stand up and you went behind Bruce.
"He hit me with his wings." Steve said, glaring at you.
Bruce looked back at you but you had your head down, not wanting to see Steve's glare. You wondered where had you gone wrong, what you must have done that made Steve hate you so much. "Please leave. I'll talk to him." Bruce said to Steve and Steve walked out.
"I'm sorry. I really am. I didn't mean it." You said, stopping him in his way. He looked at you, and for the first time you saw a soft look on Steve's face. But it didn't stay for long. Without saying anything, he walked out.
"What did exactly happen?" Bruce asked turning to you.
"I hit him with my wings." You said. "It wasn't intentional, it just happened." You told him.
"Just happened?" He narrowed his eyes on you. "And Steve didn't do anything that may have caused that response?" He asked. You shook your head. Bruce sighed, knowing you won't tell something if you didn't want it said. "Alright, now lie down. Let me check something." Bruce ordered you and you complied. You noticed the feather that Steve had plucked out was not there anymore. That could only have meant Steve had taken it with him. You sighed and closed your eyes, laying down on your stomach as Bruce checked on your wings.
"Can I go out for a walk?" You asked him.
"No." He had his brows furrowed. "How much could you strain your wings when you hit Steve? They're badly bruised." He said, looking confused.
