"Take the time while I'm gone to compose yourself and we'll talk then. And please rinse your face, Clint's aftershave doesn't suit you as well." You were froze hen Steve left and closed the door behind.
Your hands started shaking and you gulped, trying to calm your breaths. "No, no, no...." You mumbled, tears threatening to fall from your face in gushing torrents. "Clint." Your mind suddenly clicked.
You pulled out your phone from your pocket immediately and dialed his number. He didn't pick you the first time so you dialed again upon which he did pick up.
"Clint, Steve found out." You couldn't help but sob into the phone.
"And?" Your breaths almost stopped when you heard the tone he spoke with.
"No, Clint. He found out about us. He's... I don't know what to do. I-"
"For God's sake, Y/N. The deal was your ass for the adoption application. I didn't sign up for this, go deal with it yourself." He said and cut the call.
You stared blankly at your phone for a couple of seconds before you dialed again.
"Clint, you have to help me. Steve won't believe if I said-" you were cut off mid sentence by Clint's laughter over the phone.
"Why do you think would I help you patch your obviously dying relationship with Cap?" Clint spoke. "You know, Y/N. For someone of your status at SHIELD, you really aren't that bright." He said.
"I- I don't-"
"I've been wearing that aftershave ever since I got back to the tower. I know Steve's mind is capable of remembering scents much better than anyone else's. I knew he'd find out and his 'good guy' facade will break soon enough."
You couldn't believe what you were listening. Actually, a part of you could believe it. And that was the scariest thing, to not be surprised anymore by what Clint did. When did he stoop so low.
"You... You left." You cried. "You left me, Clint! And when I... When I finally have the life I always wanted..." You sniffled, not able to speak anymore as you felt your throat close up.
Clint laughed, "Oh, come on. Look at all the things you've done, Y/N. Remember all the people you've killed, how much damage you've caused. People like you don't deserve a life like that." Clint said. "But hey, you're always welcome to my bed when Steve leaves you."
You felt like you were going to be sick. Your stomach was in knots and your heart was thumping in your toears. You felt your whole body go numb. You wanted to throw the phone away but your body couldn't move. "Do you know why I hit you, Y/N? All those years back, do you know why I treated you like that?" Clint spoke once again when you didn't say anything. "Because you deserved it." He answered his own question. "That's how the universe wanted you treated, for everything you've done. It all comes back to you, Y/N. Always."
Suddenly the door to your room busted open as Tony and Thor ran in. The phone went blank as Clint cut the call. You saw Tony get to you and he was talking. But you couldn't figure out what he was saying. All you could hear was the thumping of your heart and Clint's voice as it echoed in your mind. You deserved it...
Suddenly, you felt a sharp pain across your left cheek as you almost fell over. Tony had slapped you which brought you back to the reality. You looked around and saw that it was... raining? The sprinklers on your ceiling had gone off and there was smoke everywhere. You saw Thor open the windows to let the smoke out. Everything in the room was either burnt or bent into abnormal shapes.
"Y/N, we have to get out of here. Come on." Tony said and you saw the chandelier in your room tremble. You shook your head, tears running down your face. Tony looked at you for a brief moment, his eyes wide as a shiver ran down his spine when he saw your face, before he reached into his pocket and pulled out a syringe.
