Steve woke up after a couple of hours. He opened his eyes and pulled away from you as he stretched his arms and legs on the bed. And then everything came flooding to his memories. You looked at him and his eyes widened as he immediately stood up. "Y/N I'm so sorry... I didn't mean to-"You merely smiled at the blonde, "It's Alright, Captain." You said and leaned forward to give a peck on his lips. "All understood and well forgotten. Don't worry."
After a couple of awkward minutes, Steve looked at the wall clock. "Well, there's still an hour to dinner time so..." he looked at you with a blush on his cheeks.
"Yeah? What do you suggest we do?" You grinned devilishly at him as you put your book aside, intrigued with the mood he had set with his baritone.
"Pre-dinner cuddle time?"
And so your eyes rolled with a heavy sigh. "I can't believe you're the same person who seduced me into cheating on my fiancé." You chuckled but stopped as you saw Steve's countenance change. "Right. I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said that." You mumbled.
"It's okay, Y/N." He smiled faintly and sat down next to you. You pulled the covers over the two of you and sat back with him, using his arm as a headrest. Steve looked at the clock and gulped. Clint would be at dinner as well tonight, he worried. Should he take you out for dinner? Yeah, that seemed right to him. But for how many nights would he do that? He can't just run away from it all. And above all, Clint has a family now.
He shook the thoughts off his mind. He didn't care, you had just gotten back from a hectic mission and Steve thought you kind of did deserve to have a special night. So he sat up straight, causing you to look at him with a raised brow. He cleared his throat and you merely smiled.
You already knew what he was about to say. There were some of Steve's habits you had picked up on over time. Getting nervous and thinking everything through before asking you out for dinner or a movie was one of those habits. But just as Steve was about to speak up, Tony entered the door.
Generally, Steve would have given the person an hour's lecture for striding into yours and his room without knocking. But not for Tony. Unlike Clint, Steve had taken your close friendship with Tony on a rather lighter note. He knew he didn't get a long with the engineer but was glad that you did. He understood Tony's love for you. Of course, it was more of a fatherly love than what Clint had speculated. Steve knew he could rely on Tony for your safety when the time came. And despite the usual rather verbal confrontations with the Iron Man, Steve greatly respected and was thankful to him for being your friend.
"Y/N." Tony came towards your bed with a file in his hand.
"Not that we were busy, Tony." You sighed and sat up straight. "What's up?"
Tony rolled his eyes and threw the file towards you. "Ouch. As much of a forgiving person I am, I will ignore that particularly snarky comment." He said in his terrible British accent. Steve couldn't help but chuckle as you merely shook your head. The next moment though, Tony's physiognomy changed and boy did he look like he had some news.
"What is it?" You asked finally.
"See for yourself." He said in a grave tone and nodded towards the file.
You looked at the file and opened it. It was a mission's conspectus. "You've been assigned with Barton." Steve said over your shoulder, having read the whole thing much faster than you.
