Chapter 7

Xia entered the venue where Jing's party was to be held with her brother right beside her. She was wearing a lavender dress and secretly coordinated with Mei Zuo who she knew was going to be wearing a dark purple tux. They looked around the ballroom and saw a few of their mother's investors present.

"I hate smooching. I also hate pretending to be nice to people who are clearly just after money." She told her brother who smiled at her.

"Smile. Keep you chin up. You are Dao Ming Xia. Always remember that." He told her as they walked through the crowd to search for their friends. Soon enough, they found them. They decided to walk to an empty room to fix themselves up and get away from the crowd for a bit.

"I just wanna say that you guys look so dashing tonight. I'm so proud." Xia teased as they stood in a hallway and she fixed each of their bowties. She happened to be fixing Mei Zuo's last when he placed an arm around her waist and pulled her in.

"And you, Princess, are a goddess among men." He complimented which made Xia grin. Dao Ming Si saw the way his friend was holding his sister and pulled them apart. He stepped in between them and clipped his sister to his arm.

"Hey, stop flirting with my sister. We should go and meet some of the guests now." Ah Si ordered and together, the four of them walked back out towards where the crowd was. They said hi and smiled to a few people and it wasn't long before Xi Men saw Shan Cai looking like she was hiding from someone.

"Shan Cai." He called out which made her stop walking and stand up straight. Xia excitedly approached her and gave her a hug before stepping back to take a look at her fully.

"You look very elegant today." Xia praised her friend, looking back at the three guys.

"Yes, very cute." Mei Zuo added before looking at Xi Men. They both started to leave and Xia took that as her cue as well.

"I'll talk to you later, Shan Cai. Bye!" She hurriedly said before walking towards Mei Zuo who waited for her a little way away from where Shan Cai and Ah Si were standing. Xia watched as her brother and Shan Cai stood staring at each other. Ah Si started to move towards her when suddenly, a girl came and got in the way.

"Dao Ming Si, you're still so handsome. I just came back from London last month. I went to Fashion Week there. I saw your older sister. She's still so beautiful. I bought this dress I'm wearing over there. I wondered why Xia didn't walk the runway. Is she here as well?" The random girl was talking but Xia could see that her brother still had his eyes on Shan Cai. Soon, Shan Cai's friend pulled her back to the food table and away from Ah Si.

"Ugh. I hate plastic bitches." Xia muttered with her forehead against Mei Zuo's chest as she watched her brother's missed opportunity. He just laughed at her. She stepped back and smiled at him.

"I better go see if Lei needs any help before tonight." She sadly said as she turned around to leave. He grabbed her hand.

"We don't have to be here. I could always make an excuse for you." He told her.

"I want to support my best friend like he's always done with me." She told him before she turned to walk upstairs. She located Lei's room and knocked on the door.

"Come in." She heard him say and she took a deep breath before plastering a smile on her face, opening the door to face her best friend.

"Leilei. Wow, look at you. You look so grown up." She greeted as she looked at him, wearing all white and standing in front of a mirror.
