Chapter 13

Early the next day, Xia climbed to the rooftop to see Lei flirting with Shan Cai and asking her if they could date behind her brother's back. Shan Cai looked like she was considering it and Lei asked her if she believed what he was saying. Shan Cai, not used to seeing this behavior on Lei, told him class was starting and started to leave. Xia hid herself and watched Shan Cai go. Once Shan Cai was out of earshot, she approached her best friend.

"That wasn 't very nice, Leilei." She said in a scolding tone which caused Lei to laugh at her.

"I was only joking, Princess." Lei told her.

"Jokes are half meant. You know my brother likes Shan Cai a lot. And I know you know that Shan Cai cares a lot about you. Don't do anything to mess that up." She warned him.

"Is that jealousy I hear in your tone? Perhaps you'd like to go on a date with me instead? We can do it behind Mei Zuo's back." Lei offered, looking at her with a smile, Xia stepped back.

"Are you even listening to yourself? My best friend, my Leilei, would never even joke about something like that. I get that you and Jing may have some problems and I don't know the real score between you guys but that doesn't mean that you have to change who you are. If you're hurting, talk about it or even cry about it. To me, to the guys, hell, even to Shan Cai. We're your friends, your family. We'll always be ready to listen to you. But this, hiding behind a façade, pretending that everything's okay when it's not? I don't even know if you're still my Leilei." Xia sadly said as she stepped away from him and turned around to leave.

"Princess, you've grown since the last time I saw you. You're even more beautiful now." Lei commented and Xia bitterly smiled, not turning back to face him.

"I would believe you, if I didn't hear you say something similar to Shan Cai as she left." She commented as she continued walking away.

Following her conversation with Lei, Xia didn't feel like going to school anymore. So, she told Mei Zuo she was going home and he insisted on going with her. Now, here they sat, her crying and him comforting her.

"I just don't understand, Zuo. I thought we were best friends, that we'd be able to tell each other everything. But now, I feel like I don't even know him anymore." Xia lamented as tears continued to fall down her face. She was cocooned by Mei Zuo who sat behind her and wrapped his arms around her. She felt him kiss the back of her head. She turned around and hugged him, her arms around his neck, he kept his arms on her waist and he laid down so she was on top of him.

"I'm sorry. I shouldn't even be crying or talking about this, much less to you. I don't know why I'm so affected. He's just a friend and you're—" She started but Mei Zuo cut her off with a kiss.

"No one should have to apologize for loving someone." He stated as he pulled away. Xia looked down at him and into his eyes.

"I'm trying so hard, for it to just be you." She told him honestly and he smiled at her.

"That is all I ask." He stated and was about to pull her into another kiss when Xia's phone started ringing. She pulled away from him and rolled off towards the side table where her phone was. She looked at her brother's name on the screen.
