Chapter 31: Prelude To Destruction

Your team moved out of the alley way and onto the streets. There was an eerie stillness that wrapped around you.

You kept your eyes on the stone buildings hoping to catch a glimpse of the creatures before they attacked. The once dead city now felt like a minefield, each step could trigger something to happen.

Erza nudges your side.

Erza: (Whispering) I'm worried about Wendy and Carla. The things in the buildings overwhelmed me pretty easily. If they catch either of then off guard...

You: (Whispering) We can only hope she's with someone else. There's not much we can do until we find them.

Erza: (Whispering) Hmm... I might have an idea.

She gets Happy's attention by calling his name.

Happy: What do you need Erza?

Erza: I need you to fly over the city and try to find the others.

Happy: Why are you sending me?!

Erza: Because you're the only one here other than (R/N) who can fly. Don't land anywhere and you should be fine.

Happy crosses his arms then huffs at Erza.

Happy: Fine...

Natsu: Be safe Happy.

He flys upwards and speeds off above the city.

Happy was out of sight in a short few seconds.

You cautiously looked around trying your best to sense anything. Your efforts were fruitless.

Ultear, who was walking ahead of you, stops and throws her right hand up to signal you to stop moving.

You: What is it?

Ultear: Listen.

A clicking noise from a building to your left was shaking the silence.

Erza: That clicking... it's what I heard before I was attacked.

Ultear jumps back. Natsu, you and Erza to take a battle stance.

Erza: (R/N) I can stand on my own. Be ready.

You drop her arm. She drifts to the middle of the triangle you, Ultear and Natsu made. All directions were covered.

From a window in the building with the clicking, you spot a black and white figure moving slowly past the opening. You dig your foot into the dirt.

It moves past again.

Ultear: There's more... look

From nearly every structure came the clicking noise. Figures with black bodies and white, featureless faces all peered down at you. Their hollow eye sockets burned suspense into you.

The clicking stops.

Erza: This is exactly what they did to me.

A strong impact to your head throws you through a loop. A piece of stone crumbled at your feet.

You: Did they throw that at me?!

Erza: Yes!

One by one, they start pouring out of the buildings. Ten, twenty, fifty, one-hundred creatures flooded at you. Their footsteps were noiseless as if they weighed nothing.
